Ofc. Joe Anderson, Public Information Officer/Drone Operator for the Opelousas Police Department, was proud to be in Carencro representing OPD for the National First Responder Appreciation Day event. It was an honor to join fellow first responders and community partners in recognizing the men and women who serve daily to protect lives, preserve safety, and answer the call when our communities need them most.

On the behalf of Chief Graig LeBlanc and OPD, we extend our appreciation to all law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, and emergency professionals for their dedication, sacrifice, and service. Events like this remind us of the importance of unity, teamwork, and honoring those who stand ready to serve.

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ OPELOUSAS POLICE DEPARTMENT โ€“ ELECTION SEASON REMINDER!๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ๐Ÿšจ

RESPECT THE PROCESS! RESPECT EACH OTHER! LET'S KEEP IT CIVIL!

As election season moves forward, the Opelousas Police Department would like to remind all candidates, campaign workers, canvassers, and individuals standing on street corners advocating for their preferred candidates to BE CIVIL, BE CORDIAL, AND BE RESPECTFUL OF ONE ANOTHER!

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ FREEDOM OF SPEECH IS YOUR RIGHT, BUT IT DOES NOT GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO VIOLATE THE RIGHTS OF OTHERS!

You have every right to support your candidate, express your political views, and encourage others to vote. However, you DO NOT have the right to damage or destroy an opponent's political signs, tamper with someone else's property, threaten others, or put your hands on another person or their belongings without permission.

โš ๏ธ REMEMBER, YOUR ACTIONS CAN HAVE LEGAL CONSEQUENCES!
Unlawful conduct may result in criminal charges, including:

๐Ÿ”ด Disturbing the Peace

๐Ÿ”ด Criminal Mischief

๐Ÿ”ด Simple Criminal Damage to Property

๐Ÿ”ด Other applicable criminal offenses

LET'S BE CLEAR: Just because someone doesn't support YOUR candidate doesn't make them YOUR enemy! We can disagree politically without becoming disrespectful, confrontational, or violent.

๐Ÿค WE DON'T HAVE TO AGREE TO TREAT EACH OTHER WITH DIGNITY AND RESPECT!

The Opelousas Police Department encourages everyone to exercise their constitutional rights responsibly. Support your candidate, make your voice heard, and allow others to do the same.

LET'S MAKE THIS ELECTION ABOUT VOTES, NOT VIOLENCE! ABOUT RESPECT, NOT RETALIATION!

๐Ÿ’™ UNITY IN OUR COMMUNITY BEGINS WITH RESPECT FOR ONE ANOTHER!

๐ŸšจHOMICIDE SUSPECT IN CUSTODY๐Ÿšจ

OPELOUSAS POLICE DEPARTMENT 10/15/26

The Opelousas Police Department confirms that WAYNE EDWARD ANGELLE, wanted in connection with the October 10, 2026, homicide near the intersection of Melancon Street and Jefferson Street, is NOW IN CUSTODY.

Angelle voluntarily turned himself in to the Opelousas Police Department, accompanied by his attorney and family members. He surrendered peacefully and without incident.

Chief Graig LeBlanc and the Opelousas Police Department would like to thank the community for its concern, cooperation, and continued support throughout this investigation.

While an arrest is an important step toward justice, we recognize that a family is grieving the loss of a loved one. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the victim's family as we continue working to bring answers and accountability.

This remains an active investigation, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Building relationships, inspiring young minds, and shaping tomorrow's leaders!

Today, Lt. Phyllis Tyler, Sgt. Peterson, and Ofc. Victorian** of the Opelousas Police Department were at JS Clark Leadership Academy, continuing our commitment to educating, encouraging, and empowering our youth through the D.A.R.E. Program.

D.A.R.E. is about more than teaching students to say NO to drugs. It's about helping our young people make positive choices, resist peer pressure, build confidence, and understand that their future is full of possibilities.

Strong communities begin with strong relationships, and those relationships start with our youth! ๐Ÿ’™

Thank you to JS Clark Leadership Academy for allowing our officers to be part of your students' journey.
