If you haven’t visited the City of Orange City website lately, now is a great time to take a look!

We’ve given the website a fresh new look and, more importantly, made it easier to find the information you need. We heard from our community that finding things on the old site could sometimes be a little frustrating, so one of our biggest goals with the new website was to make things simpler and more organized.

Looking for a city form? Want to pay your utility bill? Need information about a city department, park, recreation program, or upcoming event? These things are now easier to find, with information organized into clear sections and quick links to commonly used services.

We’ve also made the homepage a better place to start. You’ll find community news, upcoming events, announcements, and other information right up front, so it’s easier to see what’s happening in Orange City without having to dig for it.

And if you’re looking for something to do, the new site makes it easier to explore our parks, recreation programs, facilities, and other things that make Orange City a great place to live, work, and visit.

Of course, a website is never really “finished.” We’ll continue making updates, adding information, and looking for ways to make the site more useful for our community. As you explore, we’d love to hear what you think. If there’s something you can’t find or information you’d like to see, let us know. Your feedback will help us continue to improve the site.

So, if it’s been a while since you’ve stopped by, come check it out! Take a few minutes to click around, explore the new layout, and see what you can find.

The Orange City Council met on October 19 to address infrastructure improvements, stormwater management, and community investment.
Ruth Roghair gave a report on the work done at the cemetery in 2026. Council reviewed the monthly financial report and warrants covering bills from September 22 through October 19.
Council conducted a public hearing on the plans, specifications, and form of contract for the North Weiland Phase 4 improvement project. This will extend Frankfort Avenue NE from 7th Street to 9th Street. Seven contractors submitted bids ranging from $712,672 to $1,020,367, with Vander Pol Excavating submitting the lowest bid. Council approved plans and awarded the contract.
Council also considered the third reading of Ordinance No. 874, which would establish a stormwater utility. The ordinance was approved and adopted. They also conducted the first reading of Ordinance No. 875, which would formally establish stormwater drainage requirements for commercial properties and residential developments based on the amount of hard surface area, such as rooftops, parking lots, and driveways.
The City's health insurance renewal through Wellmark came back with a 1.24% decrease beginning in January 2027, offering some relief amid broader industry rate increases.
Council also discussed a potential $100,000 City economic development incentive toward Northwestern College's $10.9 million athletic field improvement project. Planned improvements include expanded grandstand seating, larger restroom facilities, electronic upgrades, replacement of the artificial turf, and track resurfacing. Because these facilities are generally open to and used by the public, the college requested City support for this portion of the project. The council approved the $100,000 incentive to be paid over the next 3 years.

If you have old batteries sitting around the house, we have a new option for you! Orange City now has a collection box for alkaline and rechargeable lithium batteries, along with tablets and phones, making it easier for residents to dispose of them properly.

Lithium and alkaline batteries are found in many everyday items, including power tools, electronics, and other rechargeable devices. While they’re convenient, they can become a serious fire hazard when placed in the garbage or recycling. Batteries can still hold energy even when they’re no longer being used, and if they’re crushed or damaged in the waste stream, they can spark and cause a fire.

To help prevent this, we’re asking residents to keep rechargeable lithium and alkaline batteries out of their garbage and recycling bins.

The new battery collection box is located at the Orange City Street Department, 809 Concord Place SE. Simply bring your used batteries there instead of putting them in your household trash or recycling.

One important reminder: damaged, swollen, or leaking batteries should not be placed in the collection box. If you have one of these batteries, contact the Northwest Iowa Landfill for proper disposal instructions at 712-324-4026.

It’s a simple way to help protect workers, equipment, and our community while keeping batteries out of the waste stream.

So, the next time you find an old battery, don’t toss it in the trash. Bring it to the new collection box at the Street Department! https://buff.ly/6DFiwkG

The City of Orange City will begin reviewing trees located in the public right-of-way to identify branches that are low-hanging, obstruct visibility, or create access concerns for vehicles, pedestrians, or city equipment. Trees must be trimmed to provide a minimum clearance of 8 feet above sidewalks and 15 feet above roadways.

Property owners with trees that do not meet this clearance requirement will receive a notice by mail. Residents who receive a notice are asked to complete the required trimming by May 31, 2027.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping streets, sidewalks, and public rights-of-way safe and accessible for everyone. https://buff.ly/TsTMteD
