High Fire Danger Expected Friday
The National Weather Service in Shreveport has issued a Fire Weather Watch for Friday, October 16, through late Friday night. A strong cold front will bring gusty north winds up to 30 mph, low relative humidity, and increased fire danger across Northeast Texas. Under these conditions, even a small fire could spread rapidly.
Many counties across our area are currently under burn bans, including Upshur. Morris, Marion, Cass and Harrison Counties. Camp and Gregg counties do not currently have burn bans, but that does not mean outdoor burning is a good idea. Texas outdoor burning regulations also restrict burning during high winds. Regardless of whether your county has a burn ban, please avoid outdoor burning on Friday.
Use extra caution with vehicles, equipment, mowing, welding, dragging chains, and anything that could produce heat or sparks.
If you see smoke or fire, please report it to 911 immediately so local fire departments can investigate and respond before a small fire becomes a much larger problem.
A little caution now can save a lot of trouble later.
