Our prosecutors work hard every day to make our streets safer and that includes prosecuting serious felony drug cases. A defendant was recently convicted of trafficking a large amount of fentanyl that could have caused devastating harm to our community.
Officers found the defendant with close to 200 fentanyl pills in his bedroom. A portion of the pills weighed more than 77 grams. Fentanyl is highly lethal, with just 2 milligrams potentially causing an overdose.
A jury convicted the defendant and he now faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 25 years in prison. He will be sentenced later this year.
🔹 Protecting families.
🔹 Fighting the fentanyl crisis.
🔹 Seeking justice.

Rest well, thy good and faithful servant 🕊️
We mourn the passing of a true giant, Senator Geraldine Thompson—a fearless leader, a dedicated public servant and a relentless advocate for justice. She dedicated her life to uplifting our communities, preserving Black history and ensuring that every Floridian had a voice.
From the halls of the Florida Legislature to the grassroots of our neighborhoods, she worked tirelessly to make our state more just, more equitable and more inclusive. Her unwavering commitment to truth and service will continue to inspire generations to come.
Senator Thompson was more than a legislator—she was a warrior for civil rights, a protector of our history and a guiding light for so many—especially me. As we say farewell, we honor her legacy and vow to carry forward the work she so fiercely championed.
Rest in power, Senator. Your impact will live on forever.🙏🏽
