Missouri Democrats Celebrate SCOTUS Decision
Missouri Democratic Party Chair Russ Carnahan has issued the following statement following the rulings from the United States Supreme Court siding with Missourians and clearing the way for the use of the (less) gerrymandered, maps used in 2024:
“This is yet another clear victory for Missourians — be they Democrats, Republicans, or independents — over Republican politicians and the Trump administration. The proud and honorable people of Missouri stood up and said that politicians don’t get to redraw these districts behind closed doors and water down the integrity of our democracy.
“This gerrymander was never about serving the Missouri families or seniors who are facing rising grocery bills and rising healthcare costs under Republican control of Jefferson City and D.C.. This was a blatant power grab by Republican politicians.
“Now its time to shift this fight from the courts, where Secretary Hoskins has wasted piles of Missourians tax money, and to the ballot box where we are urging every Missourian who believes in fair representation and the rule of law to vote NO on Proposition A. It’s time to reject this gerrymander once and for all.”
The Missouri Democratic Party’s state committee unanimously endorsed a NO vote on Proposition A and a YES vote on Amendment 6, which would further strengthen this state's democracy and the rights of citizens. Missouri Democrats remain focused on the real issues of rising costs for regular Missourians and breaking the Republican supermajority this November.
It's so over, folks.
Secretary of State "Do Nothing" Denny Hoskins has admitted defeat. Local election authorities will be ordered to proceed forward with the 2022 congressional maps, ending the gerrymander chaos that Republican politicians caused.
