We would like to remind everyone that low water crossings are not a place for anyone especially children to play. It is very easy to be sucked into a drainage tube with even very little water flowing!

ATTENTION! There is NO water break or boil order currently in effect for the City of Peculiar.

The City has been notified that a message went out to residents today stating there was a water break and boil order. This message was sent in error and the City is working to identify why the carrier pushed this message out.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

After spending the holiday weekend manning water stations, our Public Works crews were back at it last night when storms rolled through.

Did you know our crews also work alongside the Police Department to help keep roadways safe and accessible during severe weather?

A small crew came in with chainsaws to remove two trees blocking major roadways

Installed a temporary stop sign after one was blown down.

Worked to get the wastewater treatment system and lift stations back online following power outage.

A lot goes on behind the scenes to keep our community safe and essential services operating.

THE BOIL WATER ADVISORY IS OFFICIALLY LIFTED EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.
On September 3, 2026, a Boil Water Order was issued due by DNR to the City of Peculiar water residents and businesses. Water samples collected from the affected areas have been analyzed by certified laboratories, and test results confirm that the water meets all EPA and state drinking water standards. It is no longer necessary to boil tap water before drinking, cooking, or using it for human consumption.
-Run cold water faucets for 3 to 5 minutes just to clear water from drinking faucets if you have not been running them.

BOIL WATER ORDER UPDATE

We are happy to share that the first set of required water samples has come back clean.

The City is currently awaiting the results of the second required set of samples, which we expect to receive later today.

The Boil Water Order remains in effect at this time. Residents should continue following all boil water instructions until the City officially announces that the order has been lifted.

If the second set of samples also comes back clean, the City will have met the testing requirements provided by MDNR and will work to have the Boil Water Order officially lifted as quickly as possible.

We know this has been an inconvenience, and we greatly appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation. We will provide an update as soon as the second sample results are received.

edit- to clarify for the order to be lifted the city was required to pull two consecutive samples below regulated limits. Those were pulled on 9/3 and 9/4. We received results from 9/3 which passed and awaiting results from 9/4.

We know many people have the same questions that keep arising, regarding the boil order. We hope to answer most of those here.

WHO IS AFFECTED - If you pay your water bill to the City of Peculiar, you're in the boil order. If you pay your bill to one of the public water districts ( #2, #7, #10) you're not in the boil order and can disregard. If you still have questions, call 816-779-2200 or email [email protected].

IF YOU DIDN'T GET A ROBOCALL - This likely means you need to update your phone number with the city water department. Robocalls went out to the primary contact phone number for every city water customer.

IF YOU WANT TO RECEIVE TEXTS such as the ones sent out this morning, or others regarding weather, etc. simply text 64078 to 888777 to receive alerts

TIMELINE - Yesterday afternoon, the MoDNR contacted the City of Peculiar, with information that a water sample they had pulled on Joe Holt Pkwy. did not pass testing for regulation requirements. This does not always mean the water is bad. Oftentimes it can be a result of where the sample was pulled, whether the water had been sitting stagnant in the system, or other reasons. Nonetheless, out of an abundance of caution, DNR notified the city that they would be sending a "boil water order" with specific instructions for compliance.

When that order was received by staff this morning (attached photo), and staff spoke with DNR, they advised that notification method #1 would not be necessary, since the city had two other means of notification (robocalls and text alerts). At that point, city staff immediately began mobilizing, making notifications, and obtaining mass quantities of bottled water for distribution.

HOW LONG WILL THIS LAST - The order will be in effect until two samples can be obtained on two different days and tested satisfactorily. One of those has already been pulled and sent to DNR. The other will be done tomorrow. Sunday, however, is the earliest that the testing will be completely finished and results received.

We recognize the difficulty of this situation for our community. We wish this process was faster, but we are absolutely committed to your safety first and foremost. Our employees, who work and live here, are also affected by this situation. We are doing everything in our power to keep everyone safe, and resolve this situation as soon as possible.

⚠️⚠️⚠️ATTENTION⚠️⚠️⚠️
City of Peculiar Residents on City of Peculiar water. (This does NOT effect those on any county district water systems inside the city of Peculiar.)
This is a Boil Water ORDER—not an advisory.
The order was issued by Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
The City is required to notify customers and follow MDNR's requirements, and is unable to lift this order until MDNR advises.
Please plan on this order being in effect through at least Sunday, September 6, 2026.
MDNR issues a boil water order when a threat to public health exists or is likely to exist and that the public water system must notify customers as quickly and effectively as possible.
