At Aleph, we believe chosen family is one of the greatest gifts we can receive. Kehillah, community, is something we nurture together. Showing up for one another with compassion, care, and presence is part of how we help bring healing into the world.

Spiritual activism is not a contradiction.
It is the most ancient Jewish tradition.
From the prophets to the civil rights movement to Pride marches — Jewish people have always understood that justice is holy work.
At Aleph, we carry that tradition forward. For every q***r and trans person who deserves safety, dignity, and belonging. 🕯️✡️
How do you practice spiritual activism?

Kol hakavod and yasher koach, Rabbi Shawn Zevit.
Aleph is honored to celebrate Rabbi Shawn Zevit on receiving the 2026 Rabbinic Human Rights Hero Award from T’ruah: The Rabbinic Call for Human Rights.
For decades, Rabbi Shawn has embodied the values at the heart of Jewish Renewal through teaching, mentorship, music, spiritual direction, leadership development, and sacred activism. His work has helped cultivate kehillah (community), deepen avodah shebalev (the work of the heart), and inspire generations of seekers, students, clergy, and leaders.
Throughout his life’s work, Rabbi Shawn has modeled a commitment to tikkun olam, the ongoing work of repairing our world, while also nurturing tikkun hanefesh, the sacred work of tending and transforming the soul. Through his leadership, countless individuals have found deeper connection to Torah, tefillah, community, and purpose.
This recognition reflects a lifetime dedicated to chesed, compassion, justice, learning, and service. We are grateful for the wisdom, generosity, and presence he continues to bring to our communities and to the broader Jewish world.
Kol hakavod, Rabbi Shawn. May you continue to go from chayil el chayil, from strength to strength, and may your teachings, leadership, and love continue to illuminate the path for all who walk beside you.
B’ahavah and b’hakarat hatov, with love and deep gratitude.

Trans rights are human rights.
Every person deserves dignity and safety. Every soul is sacred. Every body is holy.
Protecting human dignity is sacred work — and Jewish values call us toward compassion and justice.
Visibility saves lives. Community care matters. 💛✨
We stand with our trans siblings. Always.

"Spirituality should create belonging, not exclusion."
This is a core belief at the heart of Jewish Renewal — and it's why Pride Month matters to us deeply.
Every soul deserves a place to exhale. Every person deserves to be seen. Every identity is sacred.
Share this with someone who deserves to feel seen. 💛
