On Saturday, I participated in the housing of North Penn Volunteer Fire Company's new Ladder 62. Housing ceremonies are an old-time fireman's tradition to celebrate obtaining new equipment. I had the opportunity to ride in North Penn's oldest engine, known as Bertha, a 1929 American LaFrance Metropolitan pumper. The engine was retired in 1958 and sold to a fire company near Tampa, Florida. As North Penn prepared for it's 100th Anniversary in 1988, they set out to track down Bertha and bring her home. Through fundraising efforts, they brought Bertha back to Pennsylvania and painstakingly cleaned and refurbished the engine to all of its 1929 glory.

Yesterday, I asked that the Legislature not recess for the session until we pass my Safe Harbor legislation, SB 554. Everyday children are forced or coerced into sexual servitude, and we should not be prosecuting them for crimes they were forced to commit. My legislation would divert these victims from the justice system to the Department of Human Services.
