Sharp Minds Start Here 🌱🧠

I was proud to see the Community College of Philadelphia bring students, community leaders, and elected officials together for September’s Power Hour, a meaningful conversation centered on mental health awareness and the resources available to our communities.

These conversations matter. Creating spaces where young people can ask questions, hear from leaders, share their experiences, and learn about resources is an important part of building healthier and stronger communities.

Let’s continue making mental health a part of the conversation and ensuring that our communities know help, support, and resources are available.

This past September we celebrated the 9th Annual Cannabis Opportunities Conference! 🌱

This gathering is about more than cannabis—it’s about creating opportunities, supporting entrepreneurship, and building pathways to economic growth for communities across Pennsylvania.

I’m proud to join the leaders, advocates, entrepreneurs, and community members as we continue the conversation around equity, opportunity, and a responsible cannabis industry.

Here’s to another year of connection, collaboration, and creating opportunities that reach every community.

Last week, I had the honor of participating in a Head Start roundtable discussion at Acelero Learning Camden/Philadelphia.

With 16 centers across Philadelphia, and offering Early Head Start services at select locations to children as young as six weeks old and up to three years old, Acelero is providing our youth with a well-rounded experience.

Early childhood education is an important foundation for a child’s future, and programs like Head Start help ensure that children and families have access to the resources and support they need to thrive.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to hear directly from educators. These conversations are critical as we work together to strengthen early learning opportunities and support Philadelphia’s youngest residents.

Today I joined my colleagues for Breast Cancer Awareness Day. During this session we passed out of the Committee that I Chaired, and passed into law, a bill providing for greater access to breast cancer screenings. I lost an aunt to breast cancer. I think of of her as we do this work. Look forward to the day when no one is lost to this disease.

Eastern State Penitentiary was historically one of the most inhumane prisons in the country it is now a place centered on educating people about how we all can get involved in the battle to end mass incarceration. There are exhibits on the racism involved in mass incarceration and the way it disproportionately effects low income communities. It was an honor to support their securing $650,000.00 in Commonwealth resources to help them in the battle against mass incarceration.
