Hatboro Police Department Thanks Sen. Maria Collett and Rep. Nancy Guenst for Securing $379,990 to Expand Regional Mobile Vehicle Barrier Inventory
HATBORO, Pa. — The Borough of Hatboro and the Hatboro Police Department today praised State Senator Maria Collett and State Representative Nancy Guenst for their leadership in securing a $379,990 statewide Local Share Account (LSA) grant that will allow Hatboro to purchase two Advanced Security Technologies MVB3X modular vehicle barrier systems with ReadyLink deployment trailers.
The award funds the Hatboro Police Department’s application to buy certified, rapidly deployable barriers for community events in the York Road Town Center District and throughout the borough. Just as important, the investment adds two complete trailer-based systems to a growing Montgomery County inventory of the same MVB3X platform already in use by the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety, the Borough of Conshohocken, and the Municipality of Norristown.
“Senator Collett and Representative Guenst did more than support a local equipment request. They helped Hatboro join a shared public-safety network that can protect events here and, when requested, help our municipal partners across the 152nd House District, the 12th Senatorial District, and the whole of Montgomery County,” said Hatboro Police Chief Mark Ruegg. “These barriers let us close streets the right way, free officers from sitting on static posts, and give residents confidence that a parade, car show, or children’s market can be both welcoming and secure.”
Hatboro hosts numerous public events each year in partnership with local businesses, including a car show, parades, and children’s markets that draw residents and visitors onto York Road and adjoining streets. Those events require hard vehicle closures. Until now, the borough has lacked enough certified equipment of its own and has relied on labor-intensive posts and borrowed systems, including barriers loaned from surrounding municipalities.
Representative Guenst, who represents Hatboro in the 152nd Legislative District and previously served as the borough’s mayor, submitted a letter of support for the police department’s application and has consistently framed the project as both a public-safety and community-vitality investment.
“I am thrilled to see the state making investments in our communities that will have a lasting impact on families across our area,” Guenst said. “Whether it’s funding for borough equipment, renovations to a local pool, or upgrades to music programs, Senator Collett and I are committed to working together to make life better for everyone in our corner of Montgomery County.”
Senator Collett, who represents Hatboro in the 12th Senatorial District, likewise backed the application, noting that portable barriers along the York Road corridor support safer events, local business activity, and the borough’s Town Center redevelopment. Her office announced the Hatboro awards as part of a larger $6.1 million LSA package for communities in the 12th District.
By standardizing on the same Advanced Security Technologies MVB3X platform already fielded by the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety, Conshohocken, and Norristown, Hatboro is not buying an isolated piece of equipment. The borough is adding interoperable systems that officers and public-safety partners already know how to deploy together. That shared inventory means more coverage when several events fall on the same weekend, faster mutual aid when a neighboring community needs hard closures, and a more resilient countywide response to vehicle-ramming threats at public gatherings.
“This is what regional public safety should look like,” said Hatboro Mayor Tim Schultz. “Senator Collett and Representative Guenst listened to our police department, backed a practical request, and delivered funding that protects Hatboro families while strengthening the safety net for partners throughout Montgomery County. We are grateful for their work.”
The LSA program distributes gaming revenues through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development and the Commonwealth Financing Authority for projects in the public interest. No local match was required for this award.
