FMFR | Working House Fire, Corn Crib Drive

Saturday afternoon, October 3, Fetters Mill Fire Rescue was dispatched to a reported house fire on Corn Crib Drive in Lower Moreland Township. Multiple callers reported heavy smoke, with fire showing from the roof line and windows.

Squad 19-1 arrived just four and a half minutes after dispatch. The crew immediately stretched and laid its own supply line, established a water supply, and went to work on the fire.

That quick arrival and aggressive initial attack gave incoming companies a strong start and helped crews gain control of the fire in approximately an hour. Companies remained on scene well into the evening completing overhaul and making sure the home was safe. All occupants safely escaped the fire.

Firefighting is a team effort, and incidents like this demonstrate the importance of having a strong regional response system. Thank you to our mutual aid partners who responded to the scene or covered our stations while our crews were committed: Southampton Fire Company No. 1, Enterprise Fire Company of Hatboro, Upper Moreland Township Fire Department, Abington Fire Company, and the EMS crews from Second Alarmer's Association and Rescue Squad of Montgomery County.

We also appreciate the support of Lower Moreland Township Police Department, the Fire Marshal's Office, our fire police who handled road closures and traffic control, and PECO.

We're proud of the work our members put in Saturday and grateful for the continued support of the communities we serve.

💗 Hope Is Here 2026

This morning, members of A Platoon at our Bryn Athyn Station had the opportunity to step away from the firehouse and join our neighbors for Redeemer Health’s Hope Is Here Breast Cancer Awareness Walk at Bryn Athyn College.

As firefighters and EMS providers, we spend a lot of our time meeting people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Events like this remind us that serving our community also means showing up for the good moments, standing with our neighbors, and supporting causes that impact the people we serve every day.

Members of IAFF Local 5608, the Fetters Mill Professional Firefighters, were proud to present a $400 donation to Redeemer Health from breast cancer awarenessT-shirt sales, supporting breast health programs and resources for patients in our community.

Thank you to Redeemer Health for bringing everyone together, and to the survivors, families, and community members who came out this morning despite the rain. We are proud to stand with you. 💗

Your fire department is more than emergency response. We are your neighbors, and we are here for our community.

Leadership in Action: Advanced Training at the National Fire Academy

Today, Deputy Chief of EMS Fred Ellinger of our Bryn Athyn station wraps up his sixth and final day of the New Executive Chief Officer course at the historic National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

This is not a sit-and-listen class. Students arrive with graded pre-course assignments already complete, then spend six full days in classroom work, evaluated activities, and presentations alongside chief officers from across the country. The curriculum covers what it takes to lead a modern emergency services organization:

🔹 Leadership and management
🔹 Local politics and the role of the executive chief officer
🔹 Strategic planning
🔹 Liability and risk management
🔹 Financial management and capital asset planning
🔹 Human resources management
🔹 Collaboration, cooperation, and community engagement

The learning didn't stay in the classroom. The class also traveled to the nearby Gettysburg battlefield, where they walked the ground and discussed real-life leadership concepts: decisions made under pressure with incomplete information, clear communication, and the lasting consequences of the choices leaders make. Those lessons apply as much to today's fire and EMS leaders as they did in 1863.

Why does this matter to you? Because the quality of the service that shows up at your door depends on the decisions made long before the alarm sounds: how we plan, how we budget, how we manage risk, and how we take care of our people.

It matters even more as we work toward a consolidated Fetters Mill Fire Rescue. Bringing organizations together takes more than good intentions. It takes leaders trained in planning, sound financial stewardship, and true collaboration with our municipal partners and the communities we serve. Deputy Chief Ellinger's coursework this week focused directly on those challenges, and he returns home with tools and a national network of peers to help us build one strong, unified, professional service for Lower Moreland Township and Bryn Athyn Borough.

Congratulations, Deputy Chief Ellinger, and thank you for investing in our future.

Remembering Glen ❤️

Yesterday marked three years since we lost Glen Golembeski, a member of our Bryn Athyn Station who left us far too soon on October 1, 2023.

Glen had a genuine love for life, his friends, and most of all, EMS. His commitment, dedication, and determination to serve others never wavered, even throughout his long battle with cancer. There was simply no quit in him.

Those who knew Glen also knew you could always count on him for a good prank, some busting of chops, and plenty of laughs. That spirit was a big part of what made Glen who he was, and it’s a big part of why he is still so deeply missed.

Three years later, we continue to remember Glen, the difference he made, and the people he touched along the way.

Rest easy, Glen. We’ll keep the lights on. 🚑❤️

Training in the sunshine ☀️🧗‍♂️

Yesterday, members of C Platoon at our Bryn Athyn Station took advantage of the beautiful weather to get outside and sharpen their low-angle rescue skills.

Crews worked on setting up and operating rope rescue systems, establishing secure anchors, and safely raising and lowering a rescuer or patient on a slope. Hands-on practice like this helps our members build the skills and confidence needed when operating in difficult terrain or other challenging environments.

Great work, C Platoon! 🚒

Yesterday, Fetters Mill Fire Rescue and Lower Moreland Township Police teamed up to host a FREE Child Passenger Safety Seat Inspection and Installation Event at our Bryn Athyn Station.

While turnout was lower than we had hoped, the event still brought together a great group of Child Passenger Safety Technicians from FMFR, Lower Moreland Township Police, local hospitals, and other area agencies.

The event also provided an opportunity for participating technicians to have their skills verified by Gina Duchossois, Injury Prevention Manager and Chair of Safe Kids Southeastern Pennsylvania, which is led through Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).

We appreciate everyone who came out, volunteered their time, and helped make the event worthwhile. Events like this are a great example of local organizations working together to help keep our community, especially our youngest residents, safe.

Thank you to all of our partners and technicians who helped make it happen! 🚒👮‍♂️👶
