During National Police Week, we remember and reflect on the lives of officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty to protect and serve others. Organizations across the country collaborate in this annual tradition, honoring America’s law enforcement community, which includes fallen officers and their families.

Please join in honoring those who have fallen in the line of duty and thanking those who continue to make our communities safer.

She gave you your first lessons about how to safely cross the road. She taught you self defense and how to protect yourself. She still makes you text her to let her know you got home safely.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms in our lives — whether biological, adoptive, or chosen — who support us and care for our wellbeing. Have a safe and joyful Mother’s Day!

We asked, and you delivered! Pitt Police collected food and non-perishable goods as part of our annual Most Wanted Food Drive, gathering four housing carts’ worth of food for CHS and two for the Pitt Pantry. We are grateful to everyone who donated their unused goods at the end of the semester to help support our local community and to our campus partners who helped to store and transport the donations.

If you are a Pitt community member who needs assistance, you can visit the during their summer hours on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (11am - 4pm). For more information, visit studentaffairs.pitt.edu/care-and-resources/pitt-pantry

The Spring Safety Crawl is in the books! For the first time since 2019, Staff Council partnered with Pitt Police, Facilities, and Environmental Health and Safety to evaluate various routes around Oakland for areas of concern, such as crosswalks with deteriorated markings, accessibility issues, lighting needs, and more. Members of each walking group will report their findings and work to contact the correct departments to address these concerns. Anyone can participate in a virtual campus safety crawl and submit safety concerns at staffcouncil.pitt.edu/virtual-campus-safety-crawl.

Thank you to all of our group leaders, officers who kept us safe, and participants for their vigilance and care! Stay safe and Hail to Pitt!

May the Fourth be with you! Our Knights of Public Safety want to remind you to stay safe, whether you’re on campus or in a galaxy far, far away.

✨ If you’re heading to the cantina to celebrate Star Wars Day or Cinco de Mayo, know your limits and never drink and drive. Have a designated landspeeder driver or use a rideshare app.
✨ The twin suns of Tatooine mean longer daylight hours, but you should still be aware of motorists when you’re walking back to your moisture farm homestead or apartment, and make sure you are seen. Make eye contact with drivers, and use crosswalks where available.
✨ Partying on the roof of your skyscraper in Coruscant could lead to a devasting fall to the lower levels of the planet. Be responsible and stay grounded.
✨ Always be a good Jedi: if you see a Wookie in need who might be overdosing on drugs or alcohol, call 911.

The Force will be with you, always, but if you need help, Pitt Police are here to serve; in an on-campus emergency, contact us at 412-624-2121. Happy Star Wars Day, Panthers!
