Le 10 avril 1948, l'Union des Populations du Cameroun (UPC) a été formée. L'UPC était une organisation panafricaine révolutionnaire qui s'est battue pour l'indépendance du Cameroun. La plupart de ses dirigeants ont été tués dans des opérations secrètes françaises ou des complots liés à la France. Beaucoup d'entre eux étaient des socialistes révolutionnaires et des panafricanistes qui travaillaient avec d'autres ancêtres importants comme Kwame Nkrumah, Patrice Lumumba, Ahmed Ben Bella et Frantz Fanon.
