Miley is taking after her godmother, Dolly!
Miley Cyrus and her mother, Tish Cyrus-Purcell, are helping build Rosa’s Place, a new housing complex for women on Los Angeles’ Skid Row.
The building will have 97 apartments for women and survivors of gender-based violence leaving homelessness. It sits at Fifth and San Pedro streets and is an expansion of the Downtown Women’s Center. Residents are set to move in next fall.
The center honored the pair at its Every Woman Housed Gala on Saturday. Miley said the night raised more than $2.1 million for the center’s HOME campaign.
The Cyruses began working with the center in December 2024 through the Miley Cyrus Foundation.
Rosa’s Place is named for Rosa Arzola, a woman who lived on Skid Row and pushed a shopping cart. Her friendship with social worker Jill Halverson led to the center’s founding in 1978.
The center runs 151 permanent housing units across Los Angeles. Rosa’s Place will nearly double that. Center leaders say 99% of residents in its permanent supportive housing have stayed housed.
The need keeps growing. The center says more than 22,000 women and survivors of violence are living without a home, and older women are the fastest-growing group.
Providers warn that budget cuts and funding freezes could delay projects like this one.
Police and prison abolitionists argue that guaranteeing everyone a safe home, along with food, health care and other basics, would do more to keep people safe than police sweeps and arrests ever have.
