Working together to provide solutions to homelessness in Collin County

When households face high housing costs, they may have to choose between paying rent and buying groceries. This “rent eats first” dynamic can push people into homelessness if they cannot afford shelter (MoveForHunger.Org). Food insecurity also depletes household resources, leaving less money for other essentials, which can make it harder to maintain stable housing (FRAC.Org). Studies show that food-insecure families are more likely to experience housing instability over time, and vice versa (TodaysDietitian.Com)

Stories from the Overnight Warming Station at EPIC:
"Maria" arrived just after midnight. She had nowhere else to go and carried a very small bag with everything she owns.
The timing mattered. The night was already cold, and exhaustion was written all over her face. When she was welcomed in, given a blanket, and shown where she could rest, her shoulders finally relaxed.
She quietly shared, “I didn’t know where I was going to sleep tonight.”
That night, Maria had warmth, safety, and space to breathe. Sometimes the most powerful thing we can offer is simply a place where fear can rest.
