Congratulations to Simon Darcy, Tracey J. Dickson and Stephen Schweinsberg, winners of the 2026 Travel Unity Academic Research Award for “Co-designing accessible tourism WITH the disability community for embodied choice,” published in Tourism Geographies (2025).

The paper reviews accessible tourism literature on protected areas from 2010 to 2022 and finds that people with disability were rarely involved as equal partners. It then documents how the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service developed its first Accessible Parks Policy through workshops in which people with disability were the majority of participants.

The policy informs access work across more than 900 protected areas.

Congratulations, Simon, Tracey and Stephen!
