Today at the State House, we voted on a supplemental budget that included an amendment to suspend the gas tax for 60 days.

I know gas prices are putting real pressure on individuals and families, and we all want to provide relief. Our affordability crisis is real and impacts so many parts of our lives and this is something I work hard on everyday. But this proposal would save the average driver an estimated $25 over two months while potentially costing the Commonwealth $120 million in transportation revenue.

One of the most common concerns I hear from residents, is their frustration with our roads, bridges, and transportation infrastructure. This tax is where the funding comes from to support these critical investments across Plymouth and the Commonwealth.

The amendment also did not guarantee that the savings would be passed on to consumers. Connecticut tried a similar suspension, and estimates suggest that less than half of the savings reached drivers. But you know who did get the savings big businesses selling the gas.

I voted against this amendment because we need meaningful, lasting affordability solutions, not a temporary measure that risks transportation funding without addressing the underlying causes of high gas prices.

I will continue working toward solutions that provide real relief for Plymouth residents while protecting the infrastructure our communities depend on. Our affordability crisis needs a real long term solution not something that is a short term fix.

What a beautiful and meaningful ceremony on Sunday at Parting Ways Cemetery!

Parting Ways was founded by four Black Revolutionary War soldiers: Cato Howe, Plato Turner, Prince Goodwin, and Quamony Quash. In 1792, the Town of Plymouth granted the men approximately 94 acres of land, where they established one of the earliest independent African American communities in New England. The community remained occupied by their descendants until 1908. Part of the site was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

It is so important that we continue to share, learn, and uplift the full history of Plymouth. Too often, when we think about Plymouth’s history, we focus primarily on our English colonial beginnings. But Plymouth’s story is so much richer than that. Our community has been shaped by people from many different backgrounds and cultures, and it is important that we recognize and honor all of those stories.

It was an honor to be joined by State Rep. Kathy LaNatra as we commemorated this important place and its history through a joint resolution from the House and Senate.

I was also proud to have two Team 1st Plymouth summer interns, Maame and Stella, participate in the ceremony by reading about two of Parting Ways’ four founders. They both did an incredible job!

Thank you to the Plymouth 250th Committee and everyone who helped make this such a beautiful and meaningful event. Your work helps ensure that this important landmark and the stories of those who lived here remain part of our community’s collective memory.

Our history is more than one story, and we have a responsibility to make sure all of those stories are remembered and shared.

On Friday, I had the pleasure of celebrating the 10th anniversary of South Shore! 🎉

I participated in the program while working at Massasoit Community College, and it was a truly a great experience.

Leadership South Shore brings together leaders from across the region to learn about the challenges, opportunities, and incredible variety of organizations serving the South Shore. Through monthly site visits and conversations with local leaders, participants gain a deeper understanding of the people and resources making a difference across the South Shore. It is a combined program with South Shore Bank and the South Shore Chamber of Commerce.

It was also an honor to hear from our keynote speaker, General Joseph F. Dunford, Jr., U.S. Marine Corps (Ret.), the 19th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and 36th Commandant of the Marine Corps. Hearing him reflect on his military service, life lessons, leadership, and so much more was a great way to celebrate 10 years of an incredible program.

Congratulations to Leadership South Shore on 10 years of developing leaders, building connections, and strengthening our communities. I am grateful to have been part of this program and look forward to seeing its continued impact across the South Shore!

💗 It was such an honor to welcome the Lobular Breast Cancer Alliance LBCA bus at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for Global Lobular Breast Cancer Awareness Day with State Rep Sean Garballey and present the Governor’s proclamation recognizing October 15 to LBCA. I then had the opportunity to meet the bus near the Mayflower in Plymouth to continue to bring awareness on this very important issue with State Rep. Kathy LaNatra and welcome Laurie, Plymouth Resident and Executive Director of the LBCA, home!

I first learned about lobular breast cancer by knocking on Laurie’s door right in the Pinehills. Laurie, a survivor and Executive Director of the Lobular Breast Cancer Alliance, took the time to educate me, and that conversation has stayed with me and our work together continues.

I am grateful to Laurie, the Alliance, Dana-Farber, and all the patients, survivors, researchers, and advocates working to raise awareness and advance research. 💗

Every conversation matters. Every story deserves to be heard. And together, we can turn awareness into treatments!

I had the opportunity to stop by the second annual Fire on the Land event this weekend, and I am so glad I did!

This year’s event was Indigenous-led, and I enjoyed learning more about the Wampanoag people's traditional practice of cultural burning. For generations, Indigenous communities used carefully managed fire to open up woodlands, enrich the soil, support biodiversity, and is critical to their way of life.

It was a fascinating opportunity to learn more about Indigenous knowledge, the relationship between people and the land, and how traditional practices can inform our understanding of land stewardship today.

Thank you to everyone who organized this event and shared their knowledge and perspectives with our community! 🌿🔥

Yesterday, I spent just under two hours attending Town Meeting and listening to the discussions shaping our community.

Thank you to everyone who helps make Town Meeting possible, including our Town Meeting members, Town Moderator, Finance and Advisory, Planning, and the town staff who dedicate their time and effort to this important part of local government. Thank you to the Local Seen for making sure that our community can watch in real time and know what is going on. Your participation and commitment is so important to Plymouth! 🏛️

On Thursday, I had the pleasure of attending the CONNECT dinner, celebrating collaboration and opportunity across Southeastern Massachusetts public higher education.

CONNECT is a consortium of six public higher education institutions working together to expand access, lower costs, share resources, and make it easier for students to transfer between institutions. The partners include:

🎓 Bridgewater State University
🎓 Bristol Community College
🎓 Cape Cod Community College
🎓 Massachusetts Maritime Academy
🎓 Massasoit Community College
🎓 University of Massachusetts Dartmouth

The evening honored Representative Fiola and Senator O’Connor for their work supporting public higher education across the Commonwealth. We also had the opportunity to hear directly from students as they reflected on their college experiences, what they have learned, what they might have done differently, and how their education has prepared them for the future.

As someone who has spent much of my career in higher education, I know how important it is to create pathways that help students access an affordable education, find support along the way, and graduate ready for what comes next.

When our public colleges and universities work together, students and our entire region benefit. Thank you to everyone working to make higher education more accessible and affordable for our communities!
