Burn Ban Alert: Jefferson Davis County and the Town of Prentiss are under a burn ban effective today, October 12 through November 2, 2026. No outdoor burning is allowed during this time. Please follow the ban to help prevent wildfires and keep our community safe.

With the late intensifying of Hurricane Isaias our area is expecting winds 25-35mph. with gust between 40-50mph. at times. The strongest winds are expected around 2am. With the high volume of dead trees the possibility of downed trees and power lines are very likely. Please use caution while traveling roadways. Rainfall is expected to be minimal but could have periods of steady rain. Remember do not place generators inside if you lose power and keep candles and other lighting away from flammable materials.

Prentiss Fire would like to wish Firefighter/EMT Andrew Kelso the best the luck on his next chapter as he excepted a full time position with Natchez Fire. Andrew has served the Town of Prentiss and surrounding areas for just over two years. Andrew still plans on serving in a part time roll. Thank you for your continued service and stay safe.

Last night Prentiss Fire held its Summer Appreciation dinner. I personally want to think each and everyone of our Firefighters for the hard work and dedication they put into not only Prentiss but surrounding communities as well. It takes everyone to keep this ball rolling and the sacrifices of you and your families are not unnoticed. Thank you Mayor Waites and Board for the support to Prentiss Fire and the Citizens we serve. With the potential for up to 8inches of rain through Friday roadways streams and creeks will certainly become flooded. We ask the public to please stay off the roadways during this time. If you have to be on the road and come across a flooded patch of roadway please do not cross it. Turn around don’t drown. Please be patient with first responders as some response time could be delayed. Thank you and stay safe.
