Tomorrow is the final scheduled opportunity to share your input on the upcoming UDO before the public hearing on November 2. There are no microphones so if you don't like public speaking, this is a great format. It's just conversations. You can talk one on one with any of us or you can drop your comments in a box that we will all read. A lot has changed since the first draft was released in January and it has been due to the tremendous amount of feedback we have received. I hope to see you there and if you can't make it, you can always email us at [email protected].

Reminder that the second drop-in session on Johnston County’s proposed Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) is tomorrow, Wednesday, September 23rd. The information session will be held at Johnston Community College in the lobby of the Paul A. Johnston Auditorium.

The world changed 25 years ago on this date. Earlier that same year, I took my boys to New York and we took this picture of the Twin Towers from atop the Empire State Building. 10 years later I would wind up as a contractor in Afghanistan and a few years after that one of those little kids in the first picture would be in his first deployment to Afghanistan. The second deployment was the withdrawal. Many lives were lost on that day and many more have been affected in so many ways. Let us never forget the feelings from 9/11/01 or the unity of our nation afterwards and let us never forget the sacrifices of all of our military, first responders and their families.

This is such sad and sudden news. Fleta was passionate about her community and it is hard to believe she is gone. Just a few months ago, we hugged after working together to finish a water service agreement and it was such a happy day. None of us are promised tomorrow and we should all work to leave this place a little better than we found it, just like Fleta did.
