Regarding Law Enforcement:
As Mayor, I would not have the ability to write law, nor choose which laws to enforce. I will however have a lot of influence over HOW those enforcements happen. For example, I can ensure those who enforce the laws are held accountable to a high standard and expected to maintain a culture of dignity and respect. I can make certain the laws, and those we might be asked to partner with to enforce them, are legal and have no overreach from the federal government.
I fully intend to ensure ALL of Provos citizens are equally protected and safe.
Arrests and prosecutions will happen to actual criminals and not those who are trying to follow the law, are being processed through the system, or might feel vulnerable simply because they are different.
Provo will be a safe city.
“ However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion. FAREWELL ADDRESS | SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 1796

Are your ballots in the mail? Utah is a ballot in hand state, I will be using the ballot box by the library. There's also one by the county offices on center street.
Either way, please vote.
Regarding the research process?
How do you decide? What method do you use to find which candidate to vote for?

Found this in a yard in Provo. It struck me how representative it is of what we might be. Healthy and flawless.

My household got our ballots today!
Regarding handbills:
The amount of signage and handbills/doors hangers blanketing our city is seriously concerning. Thousands upon thousands going straight into our recycling bins or trash. How much money has been spent? Also, why?
We live in a digital age. It feels like a new play book is in order.
I am guilty of posting signage (though not nearly so much as my competitors) and taking business card sized cards door to door with a QR code leading folks to my website.
We will all be on the ballot. I hope everyone will use Google before they decide upon a candidate.
I hope in future races we move to that exclusively.
So much waste.
My Campaign in a Nutshell
Ballots are mailed today for the primary!
Vote like you want to be heard.
Regarding letters by names:
I have been struggling with the assumption that I am Republican (I get it. I live in Provo, am 55, my home is in the edgemont neighborhood, etc etc etc.)
After that, it is assumed I am a Democrat once it is understood I am not Republican.
Once I am clear that I am neither, it is assumed that I am independent as an identity (I have registered as an independent my voting life, so I suppose this is the most fair).
In reality I am trying very VERY hard to have a different conversation. One about problems and solutions, skills and credentials. Without the heavy hanging identity politics that come along with those letters
Once we manage to remove the letters I find that we are all concerned about running the city.
It's a much better conversation.
If you want to talk about my position on issues, my personal opinion, contact me. Call, email, DM, Facebook comment, any method is welcome.
Be aware though, my approach will be as a member of the human condition, a citizen of Provo and a potential public servant.
