Remembering September 11, 2001
Dear Members of Our Community,
Twenty-five years ago today, our nation experienced one of the darkest days in American history. September 11, 2001, forever changed our country and left a lasting mark on generations of Americans.
Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost and the families who continue to carry their absence. We also honor the police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and other first responders who ran toward danger when others were running away. Many made the ultimate sacrifice in an effort to save others.
But we should also remember what happened on September 12th.
America came together. Neighbors helped neighbors. Strangers helped strangers. Communities rallied together, flags flew proudly, and Americans set aside their differences to support one another. For a moment, we were reminded that despite everything that may divide us, we are one nation and one people.
As a law enforcement community, we carry a special responsibility to remember those who gave everything in service to others.
We remember the fallen.
We honor the heroes.
We will never forget.
Respectfully,
Dalton Turmell
Chief of Police
Quincy Police Department
