Childcare touches nearly every part of a strong South Dakota economy and community.

Workforce. Economic development. Public safety. Education. Healthcare. Strong families.

Good to be with my South Dakota legislative colleagues today, learning about approaches other states are taking to early learning and childcare.

When childcare works, South Dakota works. ☀️

I’m honored to join state and national leaders at The Hunt Institute’s Early Childhood Leadership Summit this month in Westminster, Colorado. 💛

The Summit is a space to share early childhood innovations, discuss workforce development, and explore the policies that can make the biggest difference for young children and families. Excited to learn and contribute to this important dialogue.

Yesterday I shared a few photos from receiving NAFTAE’s Friend of Adult Learners National Award. Today, I wanted to share this video from NAFTAE recognizing the importance of supporting adult learners and adult education.

Adult education opens doors to new skills, better jobs, greater opportunity, and stronger communities. I’m proud to support the people doing this work every day in Rapid City, across Western South Dakota, and beyond. 💛

Thank you again to Stephenie Rittberger, Erin Vobornik, and everyone working to help adult learners succeed.

Yesterday I joined neighbors at the Pennington County Democrats’ Labor Day Picnic at Old Storybook Island. I had the chance to serve food, visit with folks from across our community, and share a few words with everyone gathered there.

Labor Day is a chance to recognize the people whose work keeps our communities moving and to spend some time together over good food and conversation. I’m grateful to everyone who helped organize the picnic, pitched in, and came out to spend the evening with us. 💛

It was a wonderful way to close out Labor Day in Rapid City.

If we haven’t met yet, I’m Nicole Uhre-Balk.

I’m an educator, a Rapid City community member, and your District 32 representative in the South Dakota House. I was first elected in 2024, and I’m running for reelection because I believe state government should stay focused on the things that make a real difference in people’s lives.

Strong public schools. Affordable communities. Better access to childcare. Support for local businesses. And protecting the Black Hills and our water for the next generation.

SDPB recently gave me the chance to share more about why I’m running, what I think Pierre should be working on, and what I hope to accomplish for District 32.

If you’d like to get to know me and what I’m fighting for, this is a great place to start. 💛

What a beautiful, sunny afternoon in downtown Rapid City! ☀️💛

I was glad to join friends, neighbors, and fellow candidates for September’s Souper Tuesday and share a few words at Main Street Square.

There’s something special about gathering together, talking about the future of our community, and hearing from people who are ready to serve South Dakota.

Thank you to everyone who came out, and to the organizers who made the afternoon possible!
