This week's Wayne County Collects theme is Home, and we're going to talk about MRL's home, which has been on nearly the same location since 1864, at the corner of Sixth and North A. The first building, which was simply the Morrisson Library, was very near the corner because the rest of the block contained lots of other buildings. Caroline Reeves' donation in 1893 added to the original building, adding a third floor, stone facing, and the distinctive tower on the corner. By the 1960s, the library board had gradually purchased the property in the whole block in order to build the current building that was opened in 1975. The two buildings coexisted for a short time.
