Subject: A Statement We Must Not Ignore: Donald Trump's Racist Attacks on the Obamas
The Black Leadership Council of Virginia is compelled to speak with clarity and urgency.
When the current president of the United States engages in sustained racist attacks against Barack and Michelle Obama, we are witnessing more than offensive rhetoric—we are witnessing a dangerous assault on democracy itself, on the dignity of Black Americans, and on the moral foundation of our nation.
Silence is not an option. Normalization is not acceptable.
We have issued a comprehensive statement addressing the pattern, the harm, and the responsibility we all share in this moment. This is not partisan politics. This is about defending the basic principles of human dignity and democratic integrity.
We urge you to read our full statement here: https://bit.ly/4to9gji
The question before us is simple: What kind of country will we choose to be?

📢 KNOW YOUR RIGHTS
The Black Leadership Council of Virginia stands firmly opposed to the federal government's new HUD directive requiring citizenship and immigration status verification for all tenants in federally funded housing.
This policy threatens to destabilize communities, displace families, and create fear among Virginia's most vulnerable residents. We believe housing is a fundamental human need—not a tool for targeting immigrant families.
🏠 To all Virginians: We are here to protect you.
Know your rights as a tenant. Stay informed. Stay safe.

📢 CALL TO ACTION
The Black Leadership Council of Virginia is building a coalition of civil rights, social justice, and faith-based organizations to oppose any effort by ICE to establish detention facilities in the Richmond Tri-Cities area.
Our communities deserve investment in housing, education, healthcare, and opportunity—not detention centers.
If your organization stands for justice, dignity, and human rights, we invite you to add your name to our collective letter to regional, state, and federal leadership.
