At the Suffolk County Legislature's general meeting yesterday, I was grateful for the opportunity to present proclamations to two Riverhead Town Police officers and a Riverhead public safety officer. During the Polish Town Fair, thousands of families filled the streets when a dangerous vehicle threat developed. What followed was teamwork and courage at its best.
Public Safety Officer Ryan Zaleski spotted the danger, tried to stop the vehicle, and radioed its path to the department. Officer Matthew Neknez, with Lt. Dino Isgro, moved to intercept and warned the officers ahead. Officer Stephen Ady put his cruiser between the speeding vehicle and the crowd. The vehicle hit his cruiser and stopped. Not one fairgoer or officer was hurt.
Thank you to Chief Frost, Captain Danielle Willsey, and every member of the Riverhead PD. Riverhead is safer because of you. And thank you to Supervisor Jerry Halpin for joining us at the ceremony.
