Last evening, trustees and leaders from five neighboring Brazoria County school districts came together to discuss the Legislative Advocacy agenda and our shared commitment to strong public schools.

It was encouraging to hear how we can unite our voices, champion our students and educators, and advocate with our legislators in Austin during the 90th Legislative Session.

When we fight, we win. When we fight together, we win BIG!

A collaborative approach is the best approach, and I’m proud to stand alongside leaders who understand that our collective advocacy can make a lasting difference for our public schools.

This week, I had the opportunity to visit one of my favorite Alvin ISD principals, Dr. Garnet Foster, who leads the ADAPT Program, Alvin ISD’s Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP).

Dr. Foster welcomed Superintendent Dr. Rhonda Mason, Board President A.J. Johnson III, and me for a campus tour. The halls were clear and quiet, learning was taking place in every classroom, and every staff member we encountered greeted us with joy. This campus is a gem and serves a vital role in our district.

I have long admired Dr. Foster’s leadership, and I was blessed that we could support each other’s doctoral research exploring the experiences of African American male principals. That shared journey makes witnessing his impact even more meaningful.

Dr. Foster, thank you for your transformative leadership and for modeling what it means to transcend all.

What a joy to be part of the unveiling of Alvin ISD’s TDECU READy Library! 📚✨

Seeing the smiles on these young children’s faces and the bright twinkle in their eyes as they discovered bookshelves filled with stories was truly special. Those moments remind us how powerful a book can be in sparking curiosity, opening imaginations, and building a love of learning.

Thank you to the TDECU Cares Foundation for your generous donation and investment in our youngest learners. Thank you also to the Alvin ISD Education Foundation and our district leaders for helping make this momentous occasion possible.

I’m excited for the stories these children will discover and the memories their families will make as they read, learn, and grow together!
