“It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” might be playing on repeat, but long holiday breaks bring stress, anxiety, and hunger for some children.
While many kids make wish lists and circle their favorite toys, others worry about having enough to eat. Join Blessings in a Backpack in making this season wonderful for all children.

Blessings in a Backpack is a registered 501 C (3) non-profit organization “neighbor-helping-neighbor” program that is designed to help meet the nutritional needs of children and families. We are currently packing weekend food bags for around 200 children per week in Royal Oak. These students are participants in the government subsidized free or reduced fee hot lunch program.
The goal of the Blessings in a Backpack program is to keep these students from going hungry on the weekends and remove barriers to academic success. “Hunger doesn’t take a break on the weekends.” Each week, volunteers, in cooperation with school officials, distribute the packed food bags filled with enough non-perishable food for the weekend (six meals) to “food-insecure” students.
Our Mission:
Blessings in a Backpack mobilizes communities, individuals, and resources to provide food on the weekends for elementary school children across America who might otherwise go hungry.
