Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates (SABA) is conducting an e-bike incentive program to provide free e-bikes to Sacramentans who qualify by zip code (mostly South Sacramento) and income. The vouchers will be awarded through a lottery process.

I recently took part of the Delta to see forsthand the impacts of invasive golden mussels. First discovered in North America at the Port of Stockton in October 2024 golden mussels have since spread across the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, reaching as far north as the Port of West Sacramento by June 2026. If the federal and staye governments don't act quickly, they are going to pose a huge threat to Sacramento waterways.

The golden mussel behaves similarly to invasive zebra and quagga mussels but adapts aggressively to the Delta's unique environment:
• Water Infrastructure Damage: They form dense, encrusted colonies on hard surfaces. They have already fouled pumping plants, irrigation siphons, and municipal water intakes.
• Ecological Devastation: By filtering massive quantities of plankton, golden mussels strip the water of the primary food source needed by native fish and wildlife, upending the local food web.
• Economic Toll: Managing the infestation requires continuous, highly expensive mechanical and chemical removal. The state has already funneled millions in emergency decontamination funds to the Delta.
