IMPORTANT DOG PARK SURVEY— Closes JULY 24!!

Please note: if you previously filled out the survey from the link in the CBS news report, that was apparently a “beta survey”. The map and questions have since changed. Please fill out the version on the link below.

Dear Friends,

Take action now about closing Sierra 2 dog park and making Curtis Park dogs go to an undisclosed, unfenced location in Wm Land Park. All the input the City received this year (the survey, the Open House results) have been totally ignored by the City.

This Item is on the City Council tomorrow December 12, 2023, at 5 pm!

We need your voice and e-comments!

How to Take Action

1. E-comment, if you haven’t already, on the City Council website and encourage any friends and neighbors to do so immediately. Ask that this item be pulled off consent so that constituents can comment on it.
It is easy to e-comment. Here is the link to ecomment:

City of Sacramento - City Clerk - Legislative Bodies & Agendas (granicus.com)
Go to: Upcoming Meetings
Go to: 5 pm City Council
Scroll down to: Item 6
Select: E-comment button

2. Attend the December 6, 2023, 5:00 pm City Council Meeting at City Hall.
• Fill out a speaker card to address Item #6 regarding the Land Park Dog Park.

• You are allowed 2 minutes to give your input if the item is pulled off consent.

• Otherwise, we can speak under Other Items at the end of the agenda.
3. Messages
• We do not oppose a pilot project dog park in Land Park - we need more dog parks, but this is not an acceptable replacement for Sierra 2.
• We are opposed to the City closing Sierra 2 Dog Park and representing that the Land Park options were top vote getters in the Open House poll. This is misleading. Sierra 2 was overwhelmingly preferred in the Open House Poll.
• Sierra 2 is not too small. There are 2.3 acres of open space at Sierra 2 Green. The City’s preference for a dog park to be 1.5 acres in size is just that-- a preference. Nearly one third of the City’s dog parks are less than 1.5 acres.
• There has been inadequate public process with the Curtis Park neighborhood. Why was there no second Open House as repeatedly promised?

• Sierra 2 Green has been used for nearly 30 years by the neighborhood for a variety of uses including off-leash dog exercise during specified times. Why is it not feasible to return to limited hours?
• If an unfenced pilot project is acceptable in Wm. Land Park why not have a similar pilot project at either Sierra 2 or Curtis Park?
Forward this information to sympathetic friends and neighbors.

Thanks Trish for your hard work and putting this together !!!

Sierra 2 Dog Park Action Committee - This Sunday July 16 at 7 p.m. at the North End (Castro Way) of Sierra 2 Field. Meet under the trees in the shade bring chair if you like. In this area dogs must be leashed. But it will be very warm, so you might want to leave the pups at home in the A/C. Try not to park in the Sierra 2 off-street parking lot because SCNA gets cranky if we do. Last minute preparations before the Open House.

City of Sacramento Open House on Sierra 2 Park Alternatives - This Wednesday July 19th from 4 pm to 7 pm in Curtis Hall at the Sierra 2 Center. A chance to see what alternatives Parks is proposing for Sierra 2. Please don't miss this important opportunity to let Parks know your opinion! If you can't make it, Parks has stated they will post the concepts online at [email protected]

Other Updates:

• We are temporarily out of lawn signs! A new order is coming on Monday next week and I will bring a pre-order form with me to the Action Team meeting on Sunday. Or if you know other neighbors or yards hankering for an attractive sign email: [email protected] with your order and address for delivery..
• We have printed name tags with the Common Ground logo for you to wear at the Sierra 2 Open House to show your support. I will try and bring some to the Sunday meeting and, I we can post volunteers at the door to Curtis Hall on Wed so you can pick a tag up.
• Draft Doggie Etiquette we brainstormed last meeting now posted for review at the dog park. Email comments and suggestions to me above/. To date, good Kim has asked that we add no digging since we already are challenged to not trip in the tire tracks!
• Common Ground Website and FAQ up and evolving. Kirsten, Michael, Dan and others have been busy developing the website for Common Ground. Check it out: https://www.sierra2commonground.com/
