California State Capitol Museum’s Living History Day is this Friday from 11-2. Capitol Museum volunteers in period attire, will share skits portraying the early 1900s at the State Capitol. This event is located in the rotunda and historic first floor rooms.

The Aftershock Festival is in Sacramento this weekend. Welcome to everyone coming to Sacramento to enjoy some music. Come by the State Capitol for a photo! Vintage photo matchup at the State Capitol! This time we are inside the Capitol building, in the historic 1906 Governor’s Office on the first floor. This office was used by many Governors and staff from 1869-1951. This room recreates the time of the direct aftermath of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake in April of that year. For six weeks following the disaster, Governor George Pardee led relief efforts in the Bay Area, basing himself out of Oaklands City Hall, where he had previously been mayor of Oakland.

We also have our regularly scheduled Park Tours this week, which start Sunday and Wednesday mornings at 11:00. All Park Tours start in the park at 13th Street and Capitol. The California State Capitol Museum Volunteer Association invites you to celebrate California’s 176th Birthday on the West Steps of the State Capitol. Join us for FREE cake, ice cream, musical entertainment and children’s activities. Come by and learn more about our state’s amazing history. Capitol Park Bird Talk & Walk (Sept 6 from 9:30am-10:30am)

Join us for a Bird Talk and Walk in celebration of California Biodiversity Week. After a brief talk about local birds, we head out as a group in search of birds within the park grounds. No bird watching experience is necessary. Great for all ages.

Registration on Eventbrite is recommended, but not required.

Meet at 13th and Capitol in the park grounds for a brief talk before we head out in search of birds. Everyone will receive a bird guide. Use your phone to take photos and participate in the iNaturalist Find 30 Species Challenge.

Bring a hat, water bottle, binoculars and a bird book, if you have them available.

Street metered parking is available on N street and L streets, surrounding the park. The nearest parking garage is Capitol Garage on 10th and L Streets. The City of Sacramento’s parking fees vary during the time and day.
