After an adoption is finalized, families have faced waits of nearly a year to receive a new birth certificate, with no required timeline for the State Registrar to complete the process.

These delays can create challenges when parents need a birth certificate to enroll their child in school, access health care, obtain identification or travel documents, or complete other important family matters.

SB 1186 changes that by requiring new birth certificates to be issued within 11 weeks, giving adoptive families greater certainty and helping prevent unnecessary delays.

The idea came directly from an adoptive parent who shared their family’s experience and inspired this solution to help other families facing the same challenges.

We are excited to share our latest Legislator Spotlight featuring Senator Roger Niello, who represents California’s 6th Senate District, including portions of Sacramento and Placer counties.

In our Q&A, Senator Niello shares his perspective on some of the biggest water challenges and opportunities facing the Sacramento region and California, including groundwater management, flood protection, water storage and infrastructure, multi-benefit projects and the importance of finding common ground.

Recently selected to become Senate Minority Leader following the November 2026 election, he also discusses how he hopes to elevate water as a statewide priority in his new leadership role.

When your budget has nearly doubled in less than a decade, but families are struggling to afford housing, gas, groceries, and healthcare, the state’s accounting system is clearly broken.

This budget relies on new taxes and borrowing and asks working families to pay even more for government programs that continue to fall short.

Well, we finally got it done!

Leno’s Law has officially been signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom. It’s been a long time coming, and I’m incredibly grateful to Senator Dave Cortese and Senator Shannon Grove for working together to get this across the finish line.

This is a big day for California’s car community. We’re preserving a piece of automotive history while recognizing that a collector car isn’t the same thing as a daily driver.

If you can get a Democrat and a Republican into the same garage, eventually something’s going to start!

Thanks to everyone who supported this effort along the way. Now let’s go enjoy some old cars.

Today we begin celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. Throughout the next month, we recognize the generations of Hispanic Americans whose history, culture, service, and contributions have helped shape California and strengthen our nation. I look forward to celebrating the many individuals who make our communities stronger every day.

I was honored to be a guest at the California Chamber of Commerce Board of Director’s Meeting, and I enjoyed catching up with Assemblyman Tri Ta and Mildred Garcia. Thank you to Cal Chamber for hosting this event and for your continued advocacy for California businesses.

On the anniversary of 9/11, we remember the 2,977 innocent lives taken, honor the heroes who ran toward danger, and stand with the families who carry that loss every day.

Twenty-five years later, we will never forget.

God bless America. 🇺🇸
