On Friday, May 8, the PCLEC had the annual graduation ceremony for the 2026 Chaplain Academy.
It was an AMAZING night with a great graduating class of 11 phenomenal graduates! They have completed 17 weeks of training and now will do 30 hours of boots on the ground as they shadow seasoned chaplains on community call outs. They are going to be such a help and support for the seasoned chaplains as well as the families during some of their hardest and darkest moments. Our upcoming Chaplain service dog, Poppy, joined to celebrate as well. (although she fell asleep at the end!)
We also recognized 2 new Law Enforcement Chaplains, Carroll and Melanie. To become a Law Enforcement Chaplain, there is a minimum of 3 years as a Community Chaplain as well as have additional training and education hours to work closely with Placer County Law enforcement and the agencies they represent.
And lastly, we were able to recognize the retirement of Carl CJ Johnson for his time as a chaplain. Carl has served as a chaplain for 36 years, the last 7 serving with PCLEC, retiring in 2022. Thank you Carl!

Approximately 300 times a year (314 in 2025) Placer County Chaplains get called out for assistance with an individual, a family, or a traumatic event. Chaplains respond 24/7/365 at any time day or night, in any kind of weather.
Upon our arrival on scene they become part of the first response team attending to emotional, logistical, or physical needs.
They are accepted into homes as trusted First Responders at a family’s dark time of need.
Whether the cause of the death is natural, accidental, suicidal, or homicidal; they are prepared to answer questions and address needs, thus freeing law enforcement personnel to take care of necessary business in an efficient manner.
In taking care of practical needs chaplains have been known to call funeral homes, assist with the task of informing other family members, do dishes, warm up soup, sit on the floor with kids and crayons, and even sit with the dog.
Chaplains are volunteers, giving of their time, money and emotional support.

Placer County Chaplains provide emotional first aid, compassionate care, active listening as well as physical support such as tissues, water and snacks to those who are experiencing an unexpected loss of a friend or loved one (outside of a hospital or hospice).
Our chaplains not only volunteer their time, 24/7/365, but also provide their own supplies to give to the community.
Your help with some of these expenses are greatly appreciated!
