Attention all high school students! District Attorney Thien Ho is thrilled to announce that applications for the Criminal Justice Youth Shadow Day are now open. This program is in partnership with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, Sacramento County Probation Department , Public Defender’s Office and Sacramento Superior Court.
Join us for a unique opportunity to job shadow professionals from various criminal justice agencies. You will get a first-hand look at the different roles within the system by being paired with prosecuting attorneys, defense attorneys, probation officers, law enforcement officers, investigators and judges.

The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on June 5 to approve the $8.8 billion Recommended Budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2024-25.
The $8.8 billion spending plan consists of $3.5 billion in Enterprise and Special Revenue Fund appropriations (utility rates, fees and other dedicated revenue), $3.8 billion in General Fund appropriations (funded with $990 million in discretionary resources, $1.5 billion in reimbursements from restricted funds, and the remaining $1.3 billion in Federal, State and fee revenue dedicated to specific purposes), and $1.5 billion in Restricted Funds.

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning in the Sacramento region June 4 - 6. Regional Cooling centers will open beginning Tuesday, June 4 through Thursday, June 6. Cooling centers will be open at the locations, dates, and times listed on the flyer and in the linked story. 2-1-1 and 211sacramento.org is the best resource for daily, updated information.
Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) will provide vouchers for free rides to and from the cooling centers for this event. Riders can ride free with this flyer by printing, or showing it on a digital device.
Residents in need of respite from the heat are also encouraged to take advantage of natural cooling spaces – such as libraries, shopping centers and community centers.

The Sacramento County Recommended Budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2024-25 has been released. The Board of Supervisors will begin hearings on the Recommended Budget at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 5, in Board Chambers at the Sacramento County Administration building, located at 700 H Street in Sacramento.
The public is invited to attend the hearings and be heard on any items in the budget, either publicly or through written comments. Budget hearings will also be telecast live on Metro Cable 14 and the County’s website.

In observance of Memorial Day, most Sacramento County offices will be closed on Monday, May 27.
Garbage service, as well as all emergency services, will continue.

Memorial Day weekend is just days away, and the beginning of the summer recreation season is here! The Sacramento County Department of Regional Parks would like to remind visitors about ways to stay safe while enjoying local parks and rivers.
The American River is going to be cold this weekend, and Regional Parks wants to make it explicitly clear that cold water can quickly become dangerous water – so don’t underestimate it.
Life Looks Good On You—and so does a life vest! Before you dive in, put on a life vest. There are borrowing stations along Sacramento’s waterways. Remember, even the strongest swimmer can be pulled under by the strong river currents.
