At the Placer County District Attorney's Office, we take that responsibility very seriously. That is why we created Placer PROTECT, a collaborative initiative focused on protecting, educating, and empowering our senior community through fraud prevention, senior education seminars, community resource fairs, victim assistance, and more.

We absolutely love working alongside our seniors, local organizations, county partners, and community leaders to ensure our older residents have the resources and support they deserve. After all, our seniors have helped build the very communities we are so proud to call home!

This year, through another wonderful county partnership, we are bringing that commitment directly to your mailbox!

A special thank you to our Placer County Assessor's Office and Document Solutions team for including our Placer PROTECT resources in this year's property tax mailing. What may seem like a simple insert is actually an opportunity to reach thousands of homeowners with information that could help protect their financial well-being, their property, and their quality of life.

We often talk about what makes Placer County such an amazing place to retire. But maintaining that quality of life doesn't happen by accident. It takes proactive leadership, strong partnerships, engaged residents, and a shared commitment to looking out for one another.

Domestic violence does not have an age limit.

As we recognize Domestic Violence Awareness Month, our Placer PROTECT team is shining a light on an often-overlooked reality: older adults can experience domestic violence, too.

For older adults, abuse can take many forms — including physical or emotional abuse, threats and intimidation, isolation, financial exploitation, neglect, or coercive and controlling behavior. The person causing harm may be a spouse or partner, but abuse can also occur within other family or caregiving relationships.

For some older adults, asking for help can be especially complicated. They may depend on the person harming them for housing, transportation, finances, medical care or everyday needs. Others may fear losing their independence, being separated from their home, or creating consequences for someone they love.

That is why collaboration matters.

Placer PROTECT brings together law enforcement, prosecutors, county agencies, service providers, nonprofits and community partners to strengthen our collective response to elder abuse and help connect older adults with resources and support.

Domestic violence can happen at any age. Recognizing it, talking about it and knowing where to turn can help bring abuse out of the darkness.

We were honored to participate in the recent working day for the upcoming Placer County Resilience Retreat Pilot Program.

This initiative reflects everything Placer PROTECT is about — bringing together countywide partners, from nonprofits and government agencies to local businesses and service providers, to work collaboratively in support of the people who need it most.

The Resilience Retreat is being developed as a space for healing, connection and support for victims and survivors, and we are proud to be part of the early conversations helping shape what this program can become.

Our Placer PROTECT Senior Resource Fair 2026 is underway! This event is a one stop shop for seniors to receive the resources and support they need in Placer County. If you were a senior or have a loved one who is a senior we will be here with over 76 Placer County vendors at Maidu Center in Roseville until 2 p.m!

We are a week away from our flagship event - the Placer PROTECT Senior Resource Fair 2026! Join local officials, 60+ vendors and hundreds of residents as we work together to protect our seniors.
