On Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and our freedoms.

Today is about reflection, gratitude, and remembrance for those who gave their lives in service to our nation. We remember their courage, their selflessness, and the families who carry their legacy forward every day.

May the memories of our fallen heroes remind us that freedom is never free.

Thank you to all who have served, and especially to those who gave everything for the United States of America. 🇺🇸

It is becoming a tradition to sponsor the Sacramento Barnyard Bidders and support the incredible young entrepreneurs who participate in our local Junior Livestock Auction at the Sacramento County Fair.

These young men and women invest countless hours caring for their animals, learning responsibility, developing business skills, and demonstrating a work ethic that is truly inspiring. Raising an animal to market-ready standards takes commitment, discipline, patience, and perseverance…valuable lessons that will serve them well throughout their lives.

What impresses me most is the character these youth display. They exemplify integrity, respect, gratitude, teamwork, and the understanding that success is built through hard work and the support of others.

Thank you to the Sacramento Barnyard Bidders, the families, mentors, buyers, and volunteers who make this program possible. Most importantly, thank you to the youth participants for reminding us what determination, responsibility, and entrepreneurship look like in action. I am proud to support you and excited to see all that you accomplish in the future.

I also had the opportunity to stop by the Rio Linda FFA group and see the animals they raised.

These are remarkable programs! The auction is tomorrow, so if you visit the County Fair, check them out!

Walmart Orangevale had their Grand Re-Opening with a highly engaged community in a lively ribbon cutting this morning.

Walmart gave 4 grants to local non-profits in this celebration, including the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Toy Project.

Big shout out to Michael Walters, Store Manager for being an outstanding Community Leader! Michael has made a tremendous positive impact in the lives of people who work at Walmart. His employees were shouting, “best manager”, and “great leader”, which says so much about him as a person and leader!

Thank you Orangevale Chamber of Commerce for your dedicated support of local business!

At today’s Board meeting, I had the opportunity to recognize Ed Valencia as one of Sacramento County’s Five Over 50 Volunteer Award recipients during Older Americans Month. A lifelong Rio Linda resident, Ed has spent more than 40 years serving the community through the Lions Club of Rio Linda, where he has helped lead programs supporting local families in need, including the longtime Ruby’s Baskets Christmas Program. Over the years, he has also dedicated countless hours to youth sports, serving as a coach and mentor for Rio Linda Little League, youth football, and Bobby Sox softball.

Ed’s service has continued through projects like maintaining Troy Graham Park and helping lead eyeglass collection efforts through the Lions Club Vision Service Program to support individuals locally and around the world. His leadership, humility, and commitment to helping others continue to make a lasting impact throughout Rio Linda and Sacramento County.

Congratulations to Ed on this well deserved recognition and thank you for your many years of service to the community!

This morning’s Big Day of Service was kicked off in high gear!! The stadium at Bella Vista High School had energetic volunteers ready to serve 62 projects in the communities of Fair Oaks, Orangevale and Citrus Heights! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

The beauty of BDOS is that anyone, from all ages, regardless of physical limitations can contribute to projects!

Great to see representatives from Congressman Kiley and Assemblyman Hoover’s offices! And enjoy seeing my team educate the communities of County services.

Loved the energy this morning! It was better than coffee!! 🤗

I encourage Sacramento County residents and community members to take part in a new survey as part of the County’s ongoing Jail System Master Planning process.

This is an opportunity to share your input and help shape future conversations around our local jail system, public safety efforts, rehabilitation programs, and long-term planning for County facilities and services. Community feedback will help guide the County as this process moves forward.

Team Rodriguez was proud to join Sac Nav yesterday for the grand opening and ribbon cutting of The Lighthouse in North Highlands, a very fitting name for a place focused on opportunity, support, and second chances.

Their work continues to make a real impact by helping individuals rebuild stability and purpose through workforce development, mentorship, and community services. Congratulations to Sac Nav on this important milestone and continued investment in our community.
