THE IDEA:

Sacramento Farmers and Chefs is a documentary photography project that highlights the people responsible for the bountiful food culture of the Sacramento Valley. Behind the scenes documentation of the installation of the portrait of Suzanne Peabody Ashworth, the first of the 72 portraits to see the light of day after 13 years in storage. This artwork is on display at hanging in front of the lovely velvet curtains that came from the Fillmore in SF. Go check it out, give a hug and eat some yummy local food.

The portraits from the SFC project have been in storage for 13 years. The first portrait to see the light is of legendary local farmer Suzanne Peabody Ashworth. It’s an honor to engage with this work again. I’m filled with emotions. Come see Suzanne at tomorrow Sunday March 15th 2-6pm during their 20-year anniversary celebration. Patrick is throwing a big party in his usual annual pig roast style. The pigs are from John Bledsoe by the way. This will be a lovely joyous celebration in community. Come say hi and give me a hug. Sending love to everyone❤️.

Lucky 13! It’s Friday the 13th and it’s been 13 years since the artwork for Sacramento Farmers and Chefs was exhibited. These portraits have been waiting patiently in storage for 13 years and I finally got to see them again.

I got emotional going through this artwork and seeing all the names, all the faces. Some of these folks have passed, some have moved away.

I’m looking forward to connecting with these talented food folks and learning about the interesting turns that their lives have taken.

Stay tuned and share our account with people interested in the Sacramento food culture so they can follow us too.

Great things are cooking 😌.

With a warm heart,
Janine
