June is Pride Month. 🌈

My vision for California is simple: a place where every person can walk through the world as themselves and know they belong.

That isn’t the reality for everyone yet. Too many people still face hostility, exclusion, and efforts to erase who they are.

This month, I celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and reaffirm my commitment to a California where everyone is treated with respect and has the freedom to live openly.

Happy Pride Month. 🌈

Event highlight from the Gonzalez Boxing ribbon cutting in Madera County:

From their old location to a brand new space, it’s been incredible watching Gonzalez Boxing continue to grow and create a positive program for local youth centered around discipline, mentorship, fitness, and community.

Safe to say Arturo saw the punching bag and forgot this was a ribbon cutting, not fight night πŸ₯ŠπŸ˜…

Say hello to the newest intern πŸŽ‰

McClean Creith joins our Merced office as a recent Political Science graduate from the University of California, Merced. Originally from Los Angeles, McClean is passionate about public service, policy, and giving back to the community.

McClean comes from a hardworking family. His father immigrated from England in pursuit of the American dream, while his mother, a San Diego native, built her career across multiple industries and remains one of his biggest inspirations.

Fun fact: McClean played competitive rugby from ages 10–15 and competed in tournaments across three different states πŸ‰

Welcome to the team, McClean!

Nonprofits like Jakara Movement remind us that real change starts in community. Their work uplifts families, empowers young people, and preserves culture while fighting for dignity and opportunity across the Central Valley. Proud to recognize them as Senate District 14’s 2026 California Nonprofit of the Year.

This week marks House of Origin on the Senate floor, a key legislative deadline when Senate bills must pass to the Assembly to stay alive this year.

That is why it was so important for my bill, SB 942 to move forward. California cannot look away while people inside private immigration detention facilities face dangerous conditions without meaningful oversight or accountability. My bill establishes enforceable standards for health, safety, and humane treatment, while strengthening state oversight of private, for-profit detention centers. The bill does not endorse the detention system, but recognizes the reality that people are suffering and that California has a responsibility to protect basic human dignity and public safety.

I’m proud that the legislation passed with unanimous bipartisan support. California is stronger when we protect the people who live, work, and raise families in our communities, and I am grateful to my colleagues for recognizing that dignity, accountability, and community safety should never be a partisan issue.

Today is for the Americans who gave their lives in service to this country and for the loved ones who carry their memory forward. Our freedoms have always come at a cost, built on the sacrifice of those willing to give everything for something greater than themselves.

May we honor their sacrifice and strive to uphold the values they gave their lives to defend.
