My heart hurts for the families across Fresno County who are afraid to leave their homes, go to work or send their children to school because of ICE enforcement activity in our communities.

No child should have to wonder whether their parent will come home. No family should have to live with the threat of being torn apart.

Our immigrant communities are part of the fabric of the Central Valley. They work hard in the fields, build our homes, care for our loved ones and contribute in so many ways to the communities we all call home. They deserve more than threats, fear and uncertainty.

Let me be clear: ICE enforcement should not be used to erase basic human rights, and no federal policy should be so inhumane as to disrupt all social and community security. We must demand accountability, due process and respect for the law and respect for those detained.

I urge everyone to know their rights and make sure their family members, friends and neighbors know theirs. You have the right to remain silent, to not answer the door, to refuse to allow a search of your property and to ask to speak with an attorney before saying anything or signing documents. If you witness ICE enforcement activity, report it to Faith in the Valley at (559) 206-0151 so that information can be verified and shared responsibly.

I stand with our immigrant families. Look out for one another, share reliable information and do not let fear divide our communities. Our responsibility to each other is too important and does not change because of someone’s immigration status.

Joined the Saint Agnes Health Executive Team to talk about the future of health care in our region and learn more about the work underway at Saint Agnes.

I’m proud to have spearheaded the Midwifery Education Pilot Program and helped ensure our hospitals can remain open as they work toward seismic compliance. Expanding equitable access to quality health care takes partnership, investment and a commitment to meeting the needs of our communities.

Thank you to the Saint Agnes team for the thoughtful conversation and for all you do to care for our region.

The Guelaguetza brings communities together to celebrate Oaxaca’s Indigenous cultures through traditional music, dance, food and the customs of its regions.

I stopped by Zaatar at their downtown Fresno location, and it was delicious. I also had the chance to visit with owner Mr. Nassar and hear more about his business and commitment to our community.

Small businesses are the heart of our community. Supporting local means supporting our neighbors and keeping our local economy strong.

Today, my Civil Detainees’ Bill of Rights was signed into law.

I authored SB 942 because people held in civil immigration detention deserve humane treatment and the protection of basic rights, including access to medical care, adequate food and sanitation, religious practice, communication with loved ones and legal counsel.

Our immigration system is broken, but that does not excuse inhumane treatment. California has a responsibility to protect people in our state, especially when they are at their most vulnerable.

I am proud to see SB 942 become California law, and grateful to the advocates and sponsors who fought alongside us to make this possible.

A great day for Madera and public safety!

I was proud to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the Madera Police Department’s new Command Post and parking lot improvements, funded through $950,000 in state funding I secured for Madera.

The funding supports a new command center for police operations, improved parking for officers and the Safe and Clean Team, giving the department added resources to respond to community needs.

It has been an honor to serve Madera and support the people who work every day to keep this community safe.

95 years of Madera tradition!

What a joy to join the 95th Annual Old Timers’ Day Parade, which has brought generations of Madera families together since 1931.

A special thanks to Lupe Beltran for driving me in his beautiful Chevy Impala. I could not have asked for a more perfect ride or wonderful company!
