Engineering Technician: The City of St. Cloud is accepting applications for an Engineering Technician. The Engineering Technician I and Engineering Technician II positions work as part of the Engineering Department team performing advanced technical civil engineering work focused on design, plan preparation, construction administration, construction inspection, topographic survey, and construction field staking of public infrastructure improvements. Work is performed independently under the general supervision of a professional engineer or an administrative superior. The position is full-time and allows the opportunity to work outside in the warmer months and inside during the colder months, and to be a part of the project team for public infrastructure projects of all sizes. The successful applicant may fill the position as either an Engineering Technician I or Engineering Technician II based on their prior experience and technical certifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Designing roadway and public utility improvements by establishing line and grade and developing cross-sections.
* Preparation of bidding documents for public roadway, trail and utility improvements.
* Gathering topographic field survey and developing surface terrain model of existing conditions.
* Providing field construction control and stakes as needed to provide contractor with information required to construct public improvements.
* Construction administration and on-site job inspection to ensure that all work is constructed in conformance with the plans and specifications and industry standards.
* Record keeping, pay voucher development and other documentation and reports associated with municipal state aid and/or federal aid funded projects.
* Complete preliminary designs, quantity takeoffs, cost estimates and prepare engineering reports and related studies to assist in the planning and implementation of public works capital improvement plan.

Civil Engineer I/II: The City of St. Cloud is seeking a qualified and dedicated individual to fill the role of Civil Engineer I/II, Registered. The Engineer I/II, Registered position is responsible for engineering work related to the investigation, location, and construction of municipal infrastructure projects. Work involves the application of engineering skills and knowledge to a variety of municipal engineering projects from conception through completion, including preparation of preliminary engineering reports and cost estimates, preparation of detailed plans and specifications, securing bids, construction supervision and preparation of assessment rolls. Work is reviewed upon completion through conferences and review of materials prepared. This position will function as a project manager with the following duties: supervision of project team, third party professional vendors and other needed services to accomplish the planning, design, and implementation of public improvement projects within limited time frames and in a cost-effective manner.
Key Responsibilities:
* Prepares engineering feasibility reports and cost estimates;
* Prepares preliminary and final plans for a variety of street, sewer, watermain, drainage projects or other public infrastructure related projects;
* Conduct site evaluations to ensure compliance with plans and specifications and local, state and federal regulations;
* Assists with the preparation of funding and grant application requests;
* Collaborates with various departments to execute projects on time and within budget;
* Supervises technicians, surveyors, inspectors and part-timers in the performance of project related activities;
* Supervises the gathering and verification of data used in computing contract payments;
* Performs related work as required.
