Stearns County is included in the Marginal Risk 1 of 5 category for severe weather today Tuesday, May 26th. Wind and heavy rain are the most likely threats with this potential weather.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and evening. Widespread severe weather is not expected, but a couple of storms could get near severe levels. After today, it will be a mild and dry end to May.

Our Emergency Management team partnered with assessors from Stearns County and several cities for a hands-on disaster damage assessment training exercise.
When a major disaster strikes, rapid and accurate damage assessment is critical. It determines how resources are deployed, helps secure state and federal disaster aid, and ultimately speeds up community recovery. By practicing these coordinated efforts now, we ensure that our local agencies can work seamlessly together when it matters most.

A huge thank you to all the participating agencies and assessors who dedicated their time and expertise today to help keep our communities resilient!

Stearns County is in the Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) area for severe weather today. While widespread severe weather isn't expected, scattered storms capable of producing damaging winds, hail, or an isolated tornado are possible later today. Stay weather-aware and have a plan to receive weather updates later today.

🚨 FIRE WEATHER WATCH FOR STEARNS COUNTY 🚨

The National Weather Service has been included in a Fire Weather Watch for Stearns County today, May 14th 2026.

Strong winds, low humidity, and dry vegetation mean any fire could spread rapidly and become dangerous very quickly.

⚠️ Please help prevent wildfires by:
• Avoiding all outdoor burning
• Skipping campfires today
• Using caution with equipment that may create sparks
• Avoiding parking hot vehicles or ATVs on dry grass
• Checking recent burn piles to ensure they are fully extinguished

We ask all residents to stay alert and use extra caution outdoors today to help keep our communities safe.
