Story Hour went “camping” this week! We made brown bear puppets, navigated a river using stepping stones, went on a bear hunt, pretended to roast marshmallows over our campfire, and ended our adventure with a yummy s’mores trail mix 🍫🔥🏕️🐻

🎥 Hocus Pocus will be playing on our projector. Popcorn and light snacks will be served during the movie.
🧪 Enjoy some punch or brew your own potions at the dirty soda bar.

October's Book Club Pick is The Return by Nicholas Sparks

Trevor Benson never intended to move back to New Bern, North Carolina. But when a mortar blast outside the hospital where he worked sent him home from Afghanistan with devastating injuries, the dilapidated cabin he'd inherited from his grandfather seemed as good a place to regroup as any.

Tending to his grandfather's beloved beehives, Trevor isn't prepared to fall in love with a local ... yet, from their very first encounter, Trevor feels a connection with deputy sheriff Natalie Masterson that he can't ignore. But even as she seems to reciprocate his feelings, she remains frustratingly distant, making Trevor wonder what she's hiding.

Further complicating his stay in New Bern is the presence of a sullen teenage girl, Callie, who lives in the trailer park down the road. Trevor hopes Callie can shed light on the mysterious circumstances of his grandfather's death, but she offers few clues―until a crisis triggers a race to uncover the true nature of Callie's past, one more intertwined with the elderly man's passing than Trevor could ever have imagined.

In his quest to unravel Natalie and Callie's secrets, Trevor will learn the true meaning of love and forgiveness ... and that in life, to move forward, we must often return to the place where it all began.

Our Story Hour celebrated the late, great Dolly Parton on 9-25. We read her book I Am a Rainbow, had a dance party to songs from her children’s album, and played all of our most colorful games!

Dolly Parton believed in giving back and helping children dream bigger—and we’re celebrating that spirit through Give Like Dolly Day.

We're inviting our community to give back to our children by supporting Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. This support will help make it possible for local children to continue receiving a free, high-quality book in the mail every month from birth to age 5.

While Dolly Parton's Imagination Library covers the program's administrative expenses and order fulfillment, it is the responsibility of our Local Program Partners to secure funds to cover the books' wholesale cost and shipping fees for each enrolled child.

For those who wish to donate, the Pleasants County Board of Education processes the invoices and maintains the donated funds for the local share of the Imagination Library.
Funds can be dropped off or mailed to the PCBOE at 202 Fairview Drive, Saint Marys, WV 26170. Please attach a note or write on the memo line of a check "For Imagination Library."

Story Hour begins this Friday! All children ages 4 & 5 are invited to join in on the fun. No registration necessary.

September's book club choice is book #3 in the Midwife of Hope River series.

The women of Hope River trust midwife Patience Hester, whose skill in delivering babies is known for miles around. But though the Great Depression is behind them, troubles are not, for Europe is at war…and it can only be a matter of time before the U.S. enters the fray.

And while some are eager to join the fight, Patience’s husband, Daniel, is not. Daniel is a patriot—but he saw too much bloodshed during the First World War, and has vowed never to take up arms again.

His stance leaves Patience and their four children vulnerable—to the neighbors who might judge them, and to the government, who imprison Daniel for his beliefs.

Patience must support their family and fight for her husband’s release despite her own misgivings. And with need greater than ever, she must also keep her practice running during this tumultuous time…relying on generous friends, like Bitsy, who has returned to Hope River, stalwart neighbors, and her own indomitable strength to see them all through.
