General Membership Strategic Plan Focus Groups:
In addition to the survey, Pathway Group is hosting a series of focus groups specifically for the community in place of the September of SLVCEH’s Core Function Group regular meetings.
Participants may choose from the following sessions: _Note: each session will be the same questions so please limit yourself to one sign-up.
Each focus group is limited to 14 participants to allow for meaningful discussion and participation. Participants may select the date and format that work best for them.
We hope to hear from members across all of the Coalition’s Core Function Groups and Task Groups, as well as a broad range of community stakeholders and partners. Your experience and perspective are important to understanding where SLVCEH is today and where the Coalition should go next.
Thank you for taking the time to participate and for the work you do in our community. We appreciate your partnership and look forward to the opportunity to improve.

Hello Community, 

As we move forward with the updated Coordinated Entry System and HAST implementation, the CE team is offering ongoing training and support for providers and community partners. Please use this registration form to sign up for a coming SLVCEH Coordinated Entry - HAST Training. Dates are available through the end of 2026.

In May 2026, the Executive and Steering Committees announced a strategic recalibration process to update the coalition’s strategic direction. Our current strategic plan was developed in 2023 with three-year benchmarks, making this an important opportunity to assess our progress, identify emerging community needs, and prepare for 2027 and beyond. 
Through this process, we aim to strengthen the Coalition’s effectiveness, better align our work with community needs, and position our Continuum of Care to successfully compete for and steward federal resources that support people experiencing homelessness.

How will the Coalition operate during this recalibration period? 
We will continue: 
* Executive and Steering Committee Meetings 
* General Membership Meetings 
* Collaboration among Utah’s 3 Continuums of Care 
We will remain focused on: 
* Maintaining compliance with federal HUD Continuum of Care (CoC) requirements 
* Strengthening community alignment around clear, shared priorities 
* Continuing our role as a community advocate and educator 
* Develop a strategy that provides stability while remaining responsive to a changing policy and funding environment. 

What will change during this recalibration period? 
Regular Core Function Group meetings will pause during the spring and summer. Instead, these groups will participate in focused discussions with our consultants, providing subject-matter expertise and community perspectives that will directly inform the development of the new strategic plan.

In the truest sense of a community effort, the Odyssey House held a ribbon cutting ceremony on July 23, 2026, for a 29-bed facility for women recovering from serious mental illness.

This initiative was a collaboration of funding efforts between the Utah Office of Homeless Services, Salt Lake County, and the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation.

The project not only helps move Salt Lake County towards its goal of 300 deeply affordable units for the county’s most vulnerable population, but also adds critical support for women at risk or experiencing homelessness. Every resident is referred through an Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team, arrives already stabilized on medication, and receives 24/7 supervision and wraparound services. This level of sustained support is intended to help people stay stable and out of the cycle of crisis.

According to philanthropist Gail Miller, the creation of this group home was intended to bring “safety, dignity, and hope, and empower them to live better lives. People do better when they have a place to live and people to support them.”

This project took the Odyssey House just four months to complete from purchase to the restoration of the building, which was formerly an international hostel. For added charm and a sense of home, some of the art for the dorm-style facility was kept, particularly the doors, which are painted references to countries across the globe. This group home is the first of three in Salt Lake County due open in 2026. Combined, the three group homes will provide an additional 90 beds overall.

We’re still catching our breath after the incredible response from volunteers and participants at this year’s Reentry Simulation.

Each year, Salt Lake County’s Office of Homelessness and Criminal Justice Reform (OHCJR) hosts this event to help simulate the barriers our unsheltered neighbors and individuals recently released from incarceration face while navigating complex community systems.

What made this experience especially impactful were our incredible lived-expert panelists, who helped provide real-world context to the challenges participants encountered while working through scenarios centered on housing instability, reentry, and access to support.

A huge thank you to Clean Slate Utah and Salt Lake City’s AmeriCorps for helping make this event such a success. And a special shoutout to the OHCJR team for organizing another meaningful and impactful community conversation. Most importantly, thank you to every participant who showed up willing to listen, learn, and engage with one of our community’s most visible and complex challenges.

On Wednesday, The Family Interim Non-Congregate Housing (better known as The FINCH) cut the ribbon to a new playground. Though the Family Housing is just celebrating its one-year anniversary, the face-lift that started in February has already made the housing feel more like home. 

“The playground is so nice to have. Kudos to the person who made the decision to build a playground!” — Family at FINCH.

It took more than one person, or even one organization to make it happen. Shelter the Homelessness, which oversees the operation of all shelters in Salt Lake County played a role, as did the operating organization of The FINCH, The Road Home. HomeAid was brought in to oversee land development, while Imagine Landscape much of the heavy lifting.

While there was some formality to the event, even leadership couldn’t help enjoying themselves. Whether it was Shelter the Homeless Executive Director Laurie Hopkins and South Lake Lake Mayor Cherie Woods racing each other down the slides, or Unsheltered Utah director Merinda Cutler and others enjoying the slides and swings, the feeling of play was palpable.
