Grant-funded improvements being made to the ~40 year old amateur radio tower at the National Weather Service San Angelo office. They are great partners and we appreciate the opportunity to make sure that Skywarn amateur radio infrastructure continues to be in service and performing well for decades to come. (Pictures below)

Sometimes folks tell us that they can't post a question on the club page, but they don't realize that we have a group for that purpose called the "San Angelo Amateur Radio Hams" where anyone can join the group and post a question or share content related to anything of amateur radio interest. If you're not already a part of this group, take a look: https://www.facebook.com/groups/421763864930546/

If there is interest, well start posting some vintage ham radio QSL post cards that originated from San Angelo. Maybe one each week on Saturday? Here's one to start off with... November 28, 1958 sent by W5WLC, R.V. Allison, to XE2DS Ken Moss in Rosita, Coach. Mexico. Their QSL took place on 7.2 Megahertz (back then they called them cycles instead of hertz) at 5pm local time. R.V. was using a National NC125 receiver and a home brew transmitter made from a pair of 5514 tubes. Photos below are Google image results of an NC125 and a 5514 tube. If anyone knows more about R.V. Allison, especially a picture or stories, we would love to hear from you.

The San Angelo Amateur Radio Club invites the public and anyone interested in amateur radio to our March monthly meeting this Thursday, March 12, 2026 at 7pm at the COSA EOC 8485 Hangar Road.

This month we will enjoy a presentation by a guest speaker, author Donna Snow King, who has published a novel called 'Down at the No Gotty' with one foot in the ham radio world and one foot in the rodeo world.

Donna is an entertaining speaker and we are thrilled that she accepted our invitation to give her presentation in person. All are welcome to this event.

Due to the forecast winter weather this weekend and its impacts on travel, the SAARC has cancelled its Winter Field Day activities.

During this weather event, please monitor the 146.940 repeater in case of any potential requests for assistance from our government partners or each other. There are no plans at this time to run a formal net. Keep the repeater active and share reports of what the world looks like from your window, and listen for requests for assistance.

Anyone who is available to lend a hand during the winter storm with any ad hoc individual requests for assistance that may be received, please email Dave Mulvey at [email protected] with a brief description of what resources you can offer and your availability.

73 and stay warm!

A fun afternoon at the ASU Planetarium doing ham radio demos in support of their 40th anniversary celebration! Capped off with a partially successful ISS demo for about 50 spectators. Possibly the first round of applause for ham operators in local history? 😄
