Do you ever wonder how many people have lived and died in the history of the world? Demographers Toshiko Kaneda and Carl Haub have estimated that number at 109 billion. Give or take a few billion (don't check our math) that have already decomposed beyond the capabilities of reanimation, that's a lot of zombies.
May is Zombie Awareness Month. The chances of a zombie apocalypse are low, but never zero, kind of like you starting that new diet on "Monday" or the Jacksonville Jaguars making it to the Superbowl.
In the event, the dead started walking, would you be prepared to hunker down in your house, basement, compound, bunker or structure of your choice for at least 3 days? Would you have enough food, water, medical supplies and duct tape to care for the people in your household?
Established by the Zombie Research Society in 2007, Zombie Awareness Month reminds us to be prepared for any kind of emergency, whether it's natural disaster or a manmade one.
Visit ready.gov to find helpful checklists, plans, resources and activities to help your household prepare. Having a plan in place helps take the strain off of emergency services, reduces panic and enables citizens to care for themselves in the initial days of an event, allowing emergency services to remain available for critical patients.
