FACT: After the former city council members voted to increase the homestead exemption from $5,000 to 20% in 2023, the city of Leon Valley still had a revenue increase of $599,281 the following year- just in property taxes. This is the largest year-over-year increase in property tax revenue in the city’s history. Any person claiming the implementation of a 20% homestead exemption was unwise has not reviewed or does not understand the numbers. It’s black and white, folks!

The council is voting for the largest tax increase in Leon Valley in over 40 years tonight. 5 of the 6 council members are frozen at the tax ceiling and will be unaffected by the change. One of the council members (Councilman Orozco) pays zero in property taxes.
Combined with the 10% increase in appraisal values, the rate will be increased by an additional 12%, from 0.48 to 0.54 per $100 of value. So all residential property owners will see an increase in property tax levy of about 20-22% next year.
5 of the 6 council members will experience no change in the tax levy they pay to Leon Valley next year, but they want to make sure everyone under 65 years old feels the pain from their fiscal irresponsibility.
Recall on the horizon?

Last night, the council was presented with a presentation containing a budget with a large deficit. The basis of the presentation was that ad valorem taxes (AKA property taxes) are forecasted to decrease next year. Does anyone in Leon Valley actually believe that the revenue from property taxes will decrease next year? Any businesses or residents get appraisal notices over the past 60 days indicating a decrease in their taxable value next year? Most residents under the age of 65 will still be seeing an unfelt increase of 10% every year for the next couple years!
Unfortunately not a single person on the council challenged this base assumption. Come on, LV Council. Don't allow yourself to fall prey to an administration that is building up some junk math "assumptions" to get you to vote for a tax rate increase.
The end goal will be to make council members believe the only solution is to increase your property tax rate. Don't allow it!

Current candidate for mayor, Evan Bohl, “was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon” after he “barged into the apartment” and “shot the victim in the torso”. “His bond was set at $75,000”, per the reports. This was after an argument between the two roommates had ensued.
Mr. Bohl has been unwilling to produce documents related to this incident.
Is he qualified to be mayor of Leon Valley?
