The invisible wounds of service deserve our visible support.

Thank you to the Avalon Action Alliance for inviting me to the “We Are Avalon” Fireside Chat at Oak Hills Country Club. It was a privilege to hear from former Secretary of Defense Mark T. Esper and to present a proclamation recognizing Avalon Action Alliance for their work expanding access to mental health treatment, training, and peer support programs for veterans, first responders, and their families.

As a veteran myself, I know these challenges can impact anyone, which is why continuing these conversations and supporting organizations like Avalon is so important.

Less than 1% of Americans raise their hand and choose to serve in the Armed Forces, which is why tonight’s “Our Community Salutes” event was so meaningful. 🇺🇸

I was proud to sponsor this event again this year and present a proclamation on behalf of Bexar County honoring graduating high school seniors from our community who are entering military service. This event also recognizes their families, who will serve alongside them every step of the way.

These exceptional young men and women have answered a call that few ever do. I still remember raising my hand more than 20 years ago to serve in the United States Marine Corps. It is no small commitment, and here in Military City, USA, they have earned our respect, gratitude, and admiration.

I was proud to run alongside those who serve during The 100 Club of San Antonio’s 4th Annual First Responder Ruck Race this past Saturday at Eisenhower Park.

The 12-mile course honored our fallen first responders, while bringing our community together in support of their families. We pushed ourselves through a competitive ruck relay race, carrying packs of 40 lbs. It was a powerful reminder of service and sacrifice!

Letters cast doubt on County's $2 mil voter registration software 05/11/2026

“This contract with VR Systems is costing taxpayers $2 million, yet it is still not operational. At this point, it appears unlikely to be ready in time for the November midterm elections. By then, five elections will have come and gone without VR Systems being implemented.

Meanwhile, our elections under TEAMS have been successfully executed and completed, which makes it difficult for me to understand why VR Systems is being presented as a necessity.

Ultimately, I still have yet to hear a clear and compelling justification for this expense. I have asked multiple times what specific value this system provides that warrants the price tag, and I still do not have that answer. Until that case is made, I believe taxpayers have come out on the losing end of this deal.”

The Pct. 3 team helped celebrate 125 years of The Children's Shelter this week during their “Give a Piece of Your Heart” luncheon honoring Peggy Eighmy and her work helping foster care youth transition out of the system.

Every year, it’s estimated that the Children’s Shelter serves more than 2,000 children and youth in crisis. Children are a gift from God, and since 1926, this organization has worked tirelessly to help children and parents thrive as a family.

It was a great night at the Rock at La Cantera cheering on our San Antonio Spurs to a blowout victory against Minnesota! If you haven't had a chance yet, be sure to make it out to one of their official watch parties.

Your voice matters as the City of San Antonio searches for the next Chief of Police.

I encourage you to take a few minutes to complete this brief community survey and help shape the qualities and priorities the City should look for in the next police leader. The survey takes about 3–5 minutes to complete, and all responses are anonymous through the Police Executive Research Forum.

Commissioner calls attention to jail overcrowding 05/06/2026

Thank you to Henry Ramos for having me on KENS 5+ tonight to discuss overcrowding and other issues affecting the Bexar County Jail.

At my urging last week, Commissioners Court held what I hope will be the first of many conversations with our partners and stakeholders about the crisis at the jail and potential solutions. We will not solve this challenge overnight, but bringing everyone to the table was an important first step.

Our county continues to grow, and we must act now to plan for the future and push for real solutions that strengthen public safety and ultimately better serve our community.

Commissioner calls attention to jail overcrowding Overcrowding at the Bexar County Jail is drawing renewed attention from county leaders after recent discussions led in part by Precinct 3 Commissioner Grant Moody.

The Pct. 3 team recently toured the San Antonio MEPS, 9th BN, Military Entrance Processing Command (MEPS), getting a firsthand look at how future servicemembers begin their journey.

Guided by LTC Brandon Fridia, we learned that this facility is one of just 65 in the country and five in Texas—and among the largest nationwide. During the tour, we were able to see that mission in action, including a group being sworn into service.

Earlier this year, we recognized MEPS with a proclamation at Commissioners Court, and this visit offered valuable insight into the important work taking place right here in our community.
