VEHICLE EMERGENCY KIT REFRESH

It's time to refresh your emergency car kit! โš ๏ธ๐Ÿš—

Swap out your layers, replenish your first aid kit and stock up on fresh batteries and water.

Pro-Tip: Donโ€™t leave plastic water bottles in a scorching trunk for months โ€” swap them out regularly for fresh ones, or grab a few shelf-stable water pouches instead.

With fall bringing shorter days and less daylight, evening commutes require extra caution as pedestrian fatalities tend to spike this time of year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Recent NHTSA historical data shows that September through November see the most pedestrian fatalities, with October being the deadliest month. With National Pedestrian Safety Month in full swing, please take the following precautions:
๏ฎ ๐ƒ๐ซ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ: Slow down, especially at crosswalks and in hard-to-see conditions.
Follow the rules of the road and use crosswalks when available.

Home fires claim seven lives every day, but having working smoke alarms can cut the risk of death by half. Thatโ€™s why the American Red Cross is rallying volunteers to install free smoke alarms nationwide, as part of its โ€œ๐˜š๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ˆ๐˜ญ๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ฎโ€ events.

Volunteers can test existing smoke alarms and install up to three free smoke alarms per household if needed.
Volunteers help create a home fire escape plan and share fire safety information.
The service is typically for people who cannot afford to buy smoke alarms or are physically unable to install them.

โ€ข ๐Ž๐ง๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐ž: You can submit a request form on the American Red Cross Sound the Alarm page (https://www.redcross.org/sound-the-alarm.html) or check your local regional Red Cross website.
โ€ข ๐๐ก๐จ๐ง๐ž: You can contact your local chapter or call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to see if local volunteers or partner fire departments are active in your area.
