NEISD Art Students Sweep State Show
Forty-three North East ISD students showcased their original artwork last weekend at the State Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) in San Marcos, and many of their pieces received the highest rating from the independent judges.

Of the 52 artworks entered by NEISD students, 36 received the highest rating during the State VASE judging process.

North East School of the Arts senior Gianna Carruth earned the prestigious Gold Seal Award for her piece “Pink Dreams and Glittering Realities.” Gianna was one of five students from our region to earn this distinction. Only 164 total artworks earned the Gold Seal Award at this year’s state contest, including Gianna’s.

The Texas Art Education Association holds the statewide competition every year, and it represents the culmination of a year’s worth of diligence and creativity for our young artists. Jurors from across the country judge the artworks. You can view the pieces here.

Churchill High School has a new National Champion!
Senior Bennie Tate recently earned a first-place finish at the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions in Nebraska. That’s one of the most prestigious speech competitions in the country!

But this wasn’t just a win for Bennie. It was confirmation to follow his dreams.

“To me, it means a lot,” said Bennie. “This is a stepping stone for my future. The coaches, teammates and friends around me continually push me to improve myself as a person. I’m proud and thankful I’ve been able to use my voice to tell stories and give a platform to those who can’t.”

Bennie wasn’t the only winner; seniors Spencer Balmer, Emma Putnam and sophomore Prudence Wilson also delivered an impressive showing at several events, helping Churchill earn a second-place finish in Overall Sweepstakes.

Participation in speech and debate help our students build confidence, leadership and communication skills. Through competition, collaboration and performance, students learn to think critically, advocate for others, and prepare for future college and career opportunities.

This is future-ready learning the NEISD way.
