It highlights today's Americans and youth who are looking to develop a rewarding career, continue their education, build a future and achieve goals. The Army and have been working together for more than 60 years. While there are currently only three active-duty astronauts in the U.S. Army, the detachment is only a small fraction of the Army’s space assets. Almost 1/3 of all jobs available in the U.S. Army are in STEM fields and in these positions are often the most qualified candidates.

Education and career experience are key to becoming an astronaut.
Candidates require a bachelor’s degree in engineering, biological science, physical science, computer science or mathematics and at least three years of related, progressively responsible, professional experience.
Almost a third of all jobs in the U.S. Army are in STEM career fields that provide people with the experience they need and the education benefits to assist in pursuing post-secondary degrees. Additionally, through the Army’s Astronaut Program Regular Army personnel go through ’s two year candidate process and continue serving the Army as an astronaut.
