With preparations for our June mutual aid distribution around the corner, we’re asking for your support to help our chapter expand our efforts in assisting a larger number of unhoused and low-income neighbors.
We’re working to grow the range of items we donate, based on requests from our community, especially tents and sleeping bags.
To make this possible, we need donations to cover expenses and increase our impact.
Please support us by making a one-time or recurring donation of any amount on our Open Collective:
All funds go directly to mutual aid and urgent community needs.
You can also support us by purchasing items from our Wish List! These go straight into the hands of those who need them most:

▪️Book of the Month: If We Burn by Vincent Bevins
Our chapter is currently reading If We Burn and meeting weekly to review each chapter together.
From the author of The Jakarta Method, this book dives deep into the wave of mass protests that shaped the world over the last decade, exploring why so many uprisings failed to bring lasting change and what we can learn from them.
📖You can find a free PDF of the book at the link in our bio under Learning Resources → Leftist Theory/Philosophy.

Range day

Engaging in a constructive conversation with someone who has a different point of view requires empathy, active listening, and a non-confrontational approach. Here are some strategies to foster open dialogue and leave the door open for further discussion without triggering defensiveness or hostility.
▪️Approach with Curiosity, Not Judgment
▪️Practice Active Listening
▪️Use “I” Statements
▪️Find Common Ground
▪️Ask Open-Ended Questions
▪️Acknowledge Their Feelings
▪️Leave the Door Open for Future Dialogue
Conversations don’t have to end in agreement—sometimes, just listening and understanding is enough. By creating a space for open dialogue, you give the other person an opportunity to reflect, consider new perspectives, and even explore the topic further on their own. Stay curious, lead with respect, and plant the seed for growth and understanding

Our chapter has a new logo!
▪️The Ocotillo, featured around our logo, is a plant native to the Southwestern United States and northern Mexico, primarily found in the Sonoran Desert, which extends into the southern part of San Diego. For much of the year, the plant resembles a collection of large, spiny, leafless sticks. However, with rainfall, it quickly transforms into a lush display of small ovate leaves and vibrant red flowers in the spring. These flowers are pollinated by hummingbirds and carpenter bees and have historically been used in Indigenous medicine.
▪️The Evening Primrose is a significant symbol of life in Sycuan culture and is prominently featured in the SycuanKumeyaay Nation flag. The Sycuan are part of the Kumeyaay Tribe, one of four Indigenous ethnic groups native to San Diego County.
▪️At the heart of our logo, the coyote, a species local to our region, remains the central element, tying together our connection to the land and its rich heritage.
Keep an eye out for some fresh SDSRA merch, soon to be released as part of a fundraiser!

▪️The chapters of the SRA engage in a wide variety of activities aligned with the national organization’s expansive mission statement. From range days focused on firearm handling and safety to social gatherings, mutual aid initiatives, community gardens, and more, our chapters actively organize events that bring people together.
▪️At their core, these activities aim to foster a supportive, inclusive community that works collectively to achieve shared goals and push back against the reactionary right-wing fi****ms culture.
▪️The San Diego Chapter is dedicated to empowering minorities and the working class by providing education on firearm handling through both theory and practice. The Chapter is equally committed to supporting the broader community through mutual aid efforts, offering assistance and guidance, and building partnerships with other local organizations to strengthen collective efforts for shared causes.
▪️The SDSRA constantly strives to improve its activities, organizing reading groups, fostering discussions about societal issues, and cultivating strong bonds among its members. Together, these efforts aim to create a united and resilient community ready to address challenges and build a better future.

▪️The Socialist Rifle Association (SRA) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to education and advocacy for self and community defense. Rooted in the principles of inclusivity and mutual aid, the SRA was founded by bringing together communities, both online and offline, around left-oriented firearm use and collective support.
▪️The organization began in late 2017, when independent chapters under the name “Socialist Rifle Association” came together to form an alliance. This collaboration led to the SRA’s incorporation as a nonprofit LLC in New Mexico in March 2018. In its early days, the SRA attracted a few hundred members, laying the foundation for future growth.
The SRA’s first major mutual aid action took place in September 2018, when the North Georgia chapter responded to Hurricane Florence by delivering supplies to shelters in South Carolina before and after the storm
▪️Today, the SRA is incorporated in Wichita, Kansas, and operates as a federally recognized 501(c)(4) social welfare organization. Our mission is to empower communities through education and action, fostering resilience and solidarity in the face of challenges.
