Thank you to Charleston’s Mayor John Tecklenburg for endorsing a major piece of national climate legislation under consideration in Congress: the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act (H.R. 2307).

“Climate change is a real and significant threat to our city, country, and the world,” said Mayor Tecklenburg. “It is imperative that we work together to solve this issue with the help of Congress through the enactment of environmental legislation such as the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act.”

The Energy Innovation Act will drive down America’s carbon pollution by 30% in the first five years and get us to net-zero emissions by 2050. As it does so, it will also save lives by reducing the pollution that Americans breathe, and it will put money into Americans’ pockets with a monthly carbon dividend or “carbon cashback.” So far, 95 members of Congress have signed on in support of this legislation.

The Lowcountry is already feeling the impact of climate change.

Dry weather flooding is making life more difficult, particularly in low-income neighborhoods.

We’re ready for Congress to put a price on carbon pollution, and so is Mayor Tecklenburg.

The Greenland Connection: Climate Change from Greenland to Charleston | Post & Courier Events 10/01/2021

This will be a fascinating opportunity to hear Post & Courier reporters explain how Greenland’s melting ice sheet is having a concerning impact on the South Carolina coast.

“Greenland is 3,000 miles north of Charleston, but this distant land of ice, polar bears and reindeer already has reshaped our coastline. It has made Charleston’s tides higher, our flooding worse. And what happens in Greenland in the future will largely determine the Lowcountry’s fate,” journalist Tony Bartelme wrote in his in-depth report.

But what’s happening there will play decisive roles in the Lowcountry’s fate, from rising seas to heavier rains.  Join us for a lecture with Senior Projects Reporter Tony...

Congrats to our Charleston co-lead Ron Malcom for his excellent letter in the Post & Courier.

“Greenhouse gas pollution would be most quickly and efficiently curbed by the placement of a fee on carbon, which could save lives, spur innovation and create well-paying American jobs.

“This approach wouldn’t entail additional government spending or complex regulations.

“The good news is that for the first time, we have the opportunity to put a fee on carbon and seriously address climate change.”

SC volunteer Ron Malcom wrote a compelling letter to the Post & Courier this week.

Will you follow his call to action to ensure we have a livable future? ✍🏻cclusa.org/house

Exxon lobbyists have been caught on camera admitting to aggressively fighting climate science and attempting to weaken climate action for their own interests.

This is why we need citizen lobbyists like our chapter members to meet with Members Of Congress and speak up about the climate solutions WE want and need.

Did you hear about the leaked draft report from the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change?

It warns of the accelerating danger caused by human use of fossil fuels and how we are on the cusp of unlivable heat waves, widespread hunger and drought, rising sea levels and extinction.

There simply is no more time to stall on climate.

We say action is the antidote to despair and the time for that full-throttle, powerful action is now.

We are busy doing the work for a livable world but we need YOU.
